I'm re-installing the axles in the 8 3/4 I've got in my 56 pump, my question is the rear bearings look good there just the stock style, I've replaced the foam gasket at the backing plate and have OEM mopar rear seal kits with the metal compression gasket, my plan was just to wash the bearings out with brake clean and re-pack with fresh bearing grease but the outer seal in the flange plate I cant change with out removing the bearing is it normal to just re-use those ones?

I cant change with out removing the bearing is it normal to just re-use those ones?

That little issue leads to greasing brake shoes on occasion. If they show no sign of leaking, you might get by. I would be careful washing out the bearings with solvent - if it gets to the outer seal and reacts badly, you'll get grease on the shoes. Overpacking the bearings can push grease past the seal also.

Well I was wondering about that I have one of those new CRC parts washers that uses warm solvent that is some sort of environmental friendly and not hard on your hands? Maybe would be ok?

It is a roll of the dice. How old are the bearings and seals? Maybe just add a little of the same grease and call it good?

Really dont know how old but they look fine I was starting to think the same thing, maybe just blow them off with a little compressed air and shoot some new grease in, worse that will happen is new shoes could start to get grease on them so I'll pull them in a week after use and if they are then I'll have to change otherwise should be good thanks for your help and ideas.

So after cleaning things up and although the bearings look fine the outer seals seem like a loose fit on the axle and I'm thinking I've gone this far so maybe change them, I haven't done this before buy looks pretty easy and I have a press but do I have to damage the collar that holds the bearing in place to get it off? If so does anyone know the part number? I see the green bearings come in a kit with new collars maybe because there different? I'm not sure if I want to go that way or just stay with stock style bearings.

Ok it looks like the cr bearing comes with the collar so I guess I do damage to get off, next question is there a cr or equivalent part number for the green bearings? Something I can find in Canada as cant afford to order from summit or anything US now with this covid19 our dollar tanked! Thanks
