I have a general question about installing new quarters.
I am working on a 69 Barracuda 340/4spd and which is in need of some metal along the lower quarters, wheel lip and forward lower quarter. see pic.
Is it better to replace the entire quarter and cut at the top accent line from bumper to door jam or just cut out the rusty areas on the lower section?
I have felt in the past that only cutting out the rusty areas and preserving as much of the original metal was best. Then I see all the resto shows on TV where they cut away entire quarters which are perfectly good except for 1 or 2 small rust spots or dings. This has me questioning if I should replace the entire quarter. What is the general consensus on this?

I prefer doing whole qtrs. It allows u 2 get in and clean or replace the wheel house and other inner structure.

If you do the 1/2 quarter panel, just be sure to leave at least 2 inches from the body line. I'm sure you know that a bit too much heat from your welder and the metal will warp. You DO NOT want to be trying to re-create the body line. I moved my fuel filler door, so I had to do some work on the body line. It was hours, and hours, and hours...

Also, make sure to use a flanger. It makes the fitment and the welding a whole lot easier.
 
Get your quarters soon. AMD is not making them anymore. I think Goodmark does. I checked their website and they where out of stock on LH quarters

Well, it depends on your welding skill. In general, the original metal fits best. Second gen Barracudas have large low crown panels, so it is more difficult to hide a seam. Less filler is better. A butt welded seam with no distortion is ideal, but difficult to achieve in real life. I don't like to cut out straight, un-rusted USA metal and replace it with something that was stamped in China, or even Ireland. That's all of them. But I'm weird that way.

If I had to do it , "mine is done'', I`d flange them and look into the new technology stuff like the corvettes are glued together with, cant teat it apart !
 
Just had both quarters on my 73 Sport replaced as part of my build. I'd planned on just replacing the rusted parts, too. But after getting in there, the shop noticed that the rust was more than I thought. Ended up replacing both outer wheel wells along with the quarters. Glad I did it, and the work done at Bay City Classics in Norfolk is flawless.

The quarters I purchased are from Sherman. AMD would be better quality but I thought that I would only be replacing the lower parts and discarding most of the rest of the quarter
 
I’m going through this now as well. I should have bought the AMD when they first went on sale. When I finally got the nerve to buy a full passenger side they already sold out. I missed out, so then I place a order with getallparts for a Goodman 3/4 panel, they canceled the order, refunded my money and said the where sold out. So I ended up with a Serman from summit. So far I see nothing wrong with it, but we will see once I get it on the car. I did get the AMD trunk extension. Good luck with your project.

The main problem with those quarters is the rear part of the quarter isn't flanged to fit in the inside of the rear valance so it wont fit right if you just try to pop it in as is. You'd have to flange that part of the quarter but it's curved so I'm not sure if it would damage the shape of it by flanging it.

Also the body line around the wheel well isn't quite as pronounced as the factory body line so you'll have to do some massaging if you do a patch halfway through that body line.

Still for Sherman, it's one of their better pieces. When I received mine in the mail, it looked like someone had walked up to it and just stomped on it above the wheel well as hard as they could. Luckily I just bought it to do a lower patch panel so the damage wasn't a big deal. Would have been pissed if I was hanging a whole quarter.
 
I noticed that it does not have the flange like the factory. I did buy the cheap harbor freight flange tool. Not sure with the curvature if it will work on that. I will have to figure that out.
 
Keep the original body lines if possible. Make sure you get the bottom tight like it should be and work it up to the top so the fit is good.
