My 422 smallblock build

stick to your guns brother don't let the internet gurus talk you into something you don't want...
I ran Factory 273 rockers the first year or two I had my Stroker motor with near 600 lift.. never a problem..
What did Ken say at Oregon cam for a cam? I thought you said you called?..
Ken said 236/242 @.050 with .564/.570 on a 108 on the small side and for something a little bigger 242/250 @.050 with .600/.600 on 110 lsa. He was a little concerned about cylinder pressure and pump gas with the 108 lsa. I think the bigger cam ground on a 108 would be pretty awesome as long as I could sneak up on the tune and keep it cool.

Keeping it cool is HUGE in being able to run higher compression ratios on pump gas.

Any thoughts on this one?
Check out this page from Summit Racing Lunati Voodoo Camshafts 40200733

I have heard that the large cubic inch engines will actually make a cam “seem” smaller than it would in a stock displacement engine, effectively lowering the basic operating range by approximately 500rpm. Is there any truth to that?
The "seem smaller" scenario doesn't hold water. Numbers are numbers you cant bend physic's.
Regarding the Lunati cam - it would work but IMO there are better choices out there. Im with YR I dont care for the split duration.

Rumbiefish360 you disagree
Do you have any cold hard proof? Dyno numbers? Time slips?
I change my tune if substantiate.

the same cam in 2 motors, 1 a 273 and another a 416 would behave completely different. the 273 would be more 'peaky' whereas the 416 would be much more streetable. that's what is meant by 'seem' smaller not an actual change to the cam.
neil.

In order they came in..

Yes
Not handy
No
No

In a way, what mygasser said.
If you took a .650 solid roller into a stock 273 to note how it behaves, feels and reacts and then put the same cam in a larger 408&+ to note how it behaves, feels, reacts, if you didn’t come back and say there is a vast difference, I’d say there something wrong with you. Or your butt dyno.

That’s it in a nut shell. If you still disagree, OK fine.

No proof
I stand by my statement

gasser I see what you are saying.
But that scenario is so off the wall that I cant even consider it near realistic.
I'm done, let's get back on the OP's topic

My first cam on a 107 had a 259-267 duration with a with a 582-603 lift with 1.6 to 1 rockers... 546-566 Lift when I had Factory 273 rockers... Mechanical solid lifters I'm about 11.3 to 1 compression....
And those days I ran 100ll av gas..
This cam did not hold an idle very well and was not much fun on the street whatsoever.. it would easily wind far past 7k at the track, but I didn't see any better results than shifting app 5800 to 6300...
Remember this was when I had the car would I call on full kill with light wheels, race buckets, 410 gears, roll bar ECT...
wanting to put the car on the street more and still be able to go to the track at times I cut the role bar out, looking for interior in with steel wheels and comforts..
I took the cam down to Ken for its second regrind.. I wanted a better idle and was looking to run pump gas...
It is now a 238 248 duration with a 506 526 lift on a 108... And idles nicely and with an extra 300 lb in Street comforts and much heavier rims I'm still within 1/2 second at the track or better... Although I can run 92 pump gas it won't shut off it will run on so I add a couple gallons of 110 Sunoco and no problems..
I'm not sure if next time I'm going to try and get the cam more manipulated for pump gas or I'm just going to lower my compression which I'll probably do anyways what's my current nitrous interest...

I should add now I have 354 gears and can pull around the corner out of second gear very easily which I could not do before...

Isn't op running stock manifolds
and stock heads
one place where a little extra exhaust duration is ok as long as the overlap stays under control
there is another place too

I'm not sure if w2 heads are considered stock?..

Negative Wyrmrider. W2 long-valve race heads and TTI headers.

Get this thing finished and go have some FUN with it. Life is short, enjoy it.
Thanks John, it’s a very slow process for me as raising a family of 3 youngsters and putting food on the table takes priority over buying car parts. Or so my wife tells me. But I’m picking away at it.
If this dirty bug going around ever lets up I’ll bring it down to Keystone and chew the rag with you a bit.

brain fade
you know that Krooser and I just stepped up and ordered a Mike Jones cam for his W2 build
His inverse radius profiles CANNOT be beat (simple math)
cheers

Heck ya look me up. I rent spot 58 (jack Lambert’s) old number on the left side of the track. Not there every week as I like to hit some big money events but I’m there a lot. Hopefully hit some Friday night test n tunes with my blue Duster and feed it some spray. Lol

I wish you'd be a little less closed-mouth about the "spray" on other threads.....

Only jersey I own.

saw your valve length several pages back
we are shooting for 1.95
pac has a beehive with 1.44ish base size which will work with our ft cam
lunati has them for $10
what have you found for your roller>
BTW IQ says your dp will work
good enough for me
same decision on the 1.6 rockers for the W2
too pricy for this year
comparing an IR to a flat flank is tough
you have to go with much more duration with the flat flank to get the same open profile
