Thanks! Yours will too. Paint seems to stick to the porous aluminum just fine without any special prep. Except a good cleaning. Sounds like you got that covered!
Yea I've been cleaning... a lot. So I'm hoping it will be worth it. I really should pull the headers out and repaint them or rewrap them to where they aren't the ugliest thing in there besides the AC unit... or power steering unit...
Battery tray is gross and so is the metal under it, took it out when u started scrubbing the engine bay.
Yes and no. Teeth are small and we use small sharp scrapers, so you have to have a delicate touch to not hurt anyone.
The harder part about the engine is there are so many objects everywhere and you have to move around to get every spot cleaned.
It's good though, this thing will look great. Now time to study a little before bed.

Oh man... I feel like I'm already there, and that I'm not nearly getting enough done this weekend. Between studying, kids and trying to get things done on the car.
Slow progress today as I studied for 6hrs. Then came home and got a little done... not nearly enough...
I cleaned my pulleys, battery tray, alternator bracket, alternator (broke the bolt that holds the bracket to the alt... so I'll have to get that out before it can go back on), cleaned the intake, engine some more and frame some more. Then I taped off a bunch of stuff and got some painting done. Air intake, timing cover and dampener are engine metallic. Pulleys are black but forgot to snap a picture.
And heres a nice sneak peek of what came in the mail...

3 coats on the front of the engine block. Maybe if I get some time tomorrow I'll start throwing some black on the engine bay.
The tinfoil trick works great and really makes it easier to cover those hard to reach and weird parts.

Are you planning on doing the water pump and timing cover in orange too? I'd put a new water pump on while your in there. They are pretty dirt cheap.
Its "Chrysler Red," but no I'm not this is the last of the red in the engine. The timing cover, WP, intake, and dampener are an "engine metallic" color and the pulleys are black.

The top edge of the head between the valve cover and intake manifold needs paint too. A tip: sometimes it's easier to brush paint some areas instead of masking for spraying. Spray some paint into a paper funnel and catch it in a jar. Let it thicken for a while, un-covered. Get about a 3/4" soft brush and go at it. (Actually, don't cover the paint tightly for several days, as the container can leak or break due to the propellant pressure still in the paint).
Bonus points for getting battery tray out without breaking bolts!

Great advice. I actually popped the intake on, traced the outline of where it would be showing and threw 3 coats of paint on it. I'm hoping this engine enamel paint stays.
Also I'm doubting if I should even do the engine bay. It seems like the paint is currently a flat black and I'd like it to be gloss black.
The problem is getting the wires out of the way... the ones attached to the firewall and even inner fenders are attached via little tabs and breaking those would Suck!

So far so good. However working in the defense industry we are deemed "crucial" workers by the government. Even though I'm an engineer, I cannot work from home, due to a horrible, stupid, short-sighted IT department. And cheap-*** bosses. They won't lay us off either. So I'm going in to the manufacturing area every day. We are being treated like "The Expendables". Can't quit the job, because then I can't get unemployment, and even worse my health insurance disappears. I think I'll have to be extremely lucky to not get very sick eventually.
Well just do what you can and stay healthy for us! I know some people are worried about the virus and getting it, but let's just hope for the best.
Now onto my virus rant lol.
Our school "closed" due to the whole quarantine bs and it infuriates me. I pay 100k to go to school and they are going to close for 1.5 months for a virus that is still going to be here after the "quarantine" is up... a virus that unless you have a severe underlying medical condition (smokers with COPD and diabetics are the 2 biggest comorbidities for the corona) you will most likely be ok.... End rant!
Lol. Now back to painting my damn engine bay... after my 2 finals tomorrow we will see what happens I guess. Heres a pretty baby to keep us company while we wait.
