1963 Dodge Dart 270 Convertible for the Wife

Wow I got this mess a lot flatter with the slapper now I watched that video. Once I take the fender off I can get to the rest of it better.... The trunk is not pretty but it is bonded.

So today I started on spooning with the trunk lid.... :). I am starting to get how to shrink and stretch metal. I still don't really understand why you have to do what you do to shrink it but it works. Got all the oil canning out plus almost need zero filler.... notice the missing blob of bonding... it will become important later....

Look mom, only 4 places I had to heat it the rest with "being one with the panel" and knowing where to spoon and dolly it.

Added the bonding to the hood to supplement the existing.

Shot it with epoxy ready for ..... wait for it...

Trunk is close to done...

On jack stands so the body lines are correct.

Need filler here to make it perfect...

Use the tape as a straightedge

Sand it like you would without the tape so you don't crack the filler when you pull the tape.

Sanded and 2 coats of epoxy... ready to go...

While drying look how little filler I need! The spoon is my friend when blocking now...

2 coats of Universal Clear and wow, Cheryl has done it again... Image the chrome/stainless and white accents against this color!

Well that gets my blood pumping. It must really get yours going! Getting to see the actual color come to life after all that work. Sweet. What a color too. White interior and top also? Steve

Light Turquoise interior with a white top. Thinking of a white boot as it will have white stripes too.

Nice color choice! I can see it coming together nicely, Wish we had your weather. Supposed to get couple inches of snow tonight here. Thanks for helping me with my cabin fever

I voted yes to the Keystones with your daughter when others didn't. Since I'm spending your money. I vote yes to the Cragar SS. Lol
 I have a love hate relationship with the Keystones.... I hate them until I sit an look at the car from the side.... I love them.... then I look at it from an angle and I hate them because they need to have about 1" more back spacing so we can fit wider tires under it :)

Don't make the wife's head swell more than it has..... She got downright nasty when I said I picked the dark turquoise (I actually did but she has forgotten that bit :)). I wanted it because my dad had a Belvedere that color.

First day I was able to work from home since this all started! That gave me 2.5 hours of extra time today so I put it to good use. The trunk is now oil caning free and quite straight. Epoxied it and will hit it with high build and start working it flat Friday. Also started the 320 wet sand for the final finish for the base. You can see why I like the sheen of the SPI epoxy for blocking. Also notice the nice cross hatch to make it nice and flat.

Jim works so fast, he could probably finish this, and do another car if he's "working from home" before I'm supposed to go back to work on the 14th. lol

Ok I am totally done with body work on the old girl... and I don't mean finished..... She is the same age as me and probably my body is in as bad of shape. Spent the day working working on the hood, trunk and RH side.... The side is flat other than the couple of places I hit it with high build where a few low spots were... The trunk is so close.... I should have the hood and the trunk done tomorrow..... Knock on wood.... This thing is kicking my butt.....

So I quit on the hood and trunk for now. I just got in the mood I am just going to sand till I don't want to any more. Got a lot done.... The body is straight! She is blocked out with 220 and I washed it with Dawn and water to get the residue off. You can see how straight she is.... I shot it with a highly reduced epoxy coat to fill in the scratches and cover the bare spots. Tomorrow 320 and 500 and it is ready to paint.... Oh after I get the hood and trunk like this.... :(

A days worth of sand paper. If you don't feel like your wasting it your not changing it enough....

The poor movie star is neglected under dust and dirt......

Has anyone noticed I have encouraged the wife and daughter to have cars that are mutually exclusive at shows for years :) We can't compete against each other!
