Trick Flow Heads on Engine Power.

There is no doubt in my mind that you could build a 360 with flat tops, the TF heads, a decent sized cam, the TF manifold, and nice headers....... and easily make 500hp.

You could do the same with RPM heads that have been worked over........ but after buying the RPM heads and having them reworked....... it would have been cheaper to just by the TF’s in the first place.

I’ve tested a 419 with RPM heads I ported at 585hp........ and I don’t get anywhere near the numbers out of them that plenty of others get.

I feel that 600hp from a bracket race type stroker build would be “no problemo” using the TF heads.

As for the blown 383 SBC....... pretty obvious to me what the problem was there once they pulled the head off.

Flat top pistons are going to yield too much compression for a roots blower combo with 10-12psi of boost, unless you’re running some really good gas.

Maybe on one of the previous episodes featuring that build they mention what the CR was, but even if they were 72cc heads the CR would be up very close to 10:1.

As seen in the chart, 10:1 + 10psi is equivalent to over 16:1CR.
Roots blowers generate a lot of heat in the manifold, which exacerbates the detonation problem.

Around 8:1 and 6-7psi is a much more street duty combination...... especially considering the vehicle they plan on putting that motor in.

i think people were expecting or led to believe they were going to get a bolt on 600 hp head or a head that would blow the edelbrocks away but that didn't happen .

Eddy sbm head is nowhere near in flow/performance to the TF's, they are only a bit better than a stock iron head.....most think they can bolt a TF head on with a .495" hyd. cam and make 600hp@5500rpm with 9.5:1CR..not going to happen....TF190 does blow an ootb Eddy away and IS a bolt on 550>600hp capable head if you put it on a proper short block with enough Comp, a cam that takes advantage of all the flow and a big enough carb/intake/hdrs etc., but how many build a motor like that for the street, even for street/strip.
 
That's quite a leap....Were you under the impression that the TF would yield similar performance as a W9? Or just decide to go big or go home?
No ... it came down to money... the W9s will end up costing me less than the trickflows

Edelbrock 243 max cfm out of the box
TrickFlow 300
App 60 cfm difference
Max effort with both heads 90-120
Horsepower difference on the intake side.
Exhaust ports are no comparison with the TrickFlow being much better.
TrickFlow chamber is much nicer.
 
Motor is pretty close to being done....need to order a set of pushrods tomorrow as they take a longer pushrod then the Eddy/ SM head.

We just finished a build with them. Dealing with some electrical issues so no driving it yet. Got the cam broke in though.

I got 530 hp with a set of ede heads ported by Hughes , i expect more once I get rid of the 23cc dish pistons for 13cc dish pistons and get rid of the air gap intake for a victor intake . I'm okay with that , but would have gone trick flow if they were available at the time . Can't wait to see some real world results with the TF heads

That seems pretty realistic to me.
 
According to Trick Flow they do not have the specs on the 360 in the video. I was told I would have to get that info from Power Nation.

How do these flow in comparison to the W9 Heads?
 
No ... it came down to money... the W9s will end up costing me less than the trickflows

You must have had some stuff on the shelf, or came across a heck of a deal. W9 heads are amazing heads but spendy!

I picked up a set of new W9 heads with the intake and rocker shaft stands
for $1450
 
I will get them flowed but I believe they go around 300 out of the box.
Porting will depend on if I us a factory block or get an R3 block
 
I am in the Process of installing them on my Magnum 360. Well I should of said I have them installed on my 360. Now just wating for my Rocker arm kit to come in,so i can measure for push rods and getting my indy intake back. I had to send it off, to get drilled for L/A bolt pattern. My new LA valve covers are soposed to be in this friday. I am building a 96 Dakota to race and hope to have the truck done before may 31. I am from MO and they say that's when the track opens back up. I guess well see how the trick flows compare to the ported but stock size valve EQ heads they are replacing. Here is a pick right after I got them on the engine

Speaking of heads a friend of mine ran 2 different 408 SBMs last week on the dyno ( on the same day) The street engine did around 520hp and the race engine did 630hp...both used the pro-maxx cnc heads
