In all my years I have never sold one!! Split many apart for ther sure grip but never sold a complete one. Not a for sale ad, just cleaning up and stumbling across my board of useless parts

absolutely as long as you're not trying to get top dollar plus.

They get such a bad rap.Nothing wrong with them. At one time gears were available and had 4.30's in my 67 Dart. I think Dr. Diff sells 3.73-down for them..
The last ones I've sold I got $25 for open 741's.

The 741 case was used quite a bit, I've never used one because most of what I do is drag racing & the small pinion didn't seem to hold up from talking to other racers. I know I'm probably to catch a ratio of stuff over this post, but it's just my opinion & the suggestions from other racers. I've bought a lot of 741 cases to get the gears & sure grips out of them. I've sols some of the 741 cases to fellow Mopar owners that wanted them for their use.

just put one in our dart.. nothing wrong with it...

yeas ago a magazine bad mouthed everything but a 489 case and just like that anything other then a 489 was junk..

I needed a few, all good now. I have seen empty cases sell for 50-75 at the Carlisle swap meet. If they have 3.23 gears 100-125 & up to 150 for a 3.55.

I love the 741s myself, some people forget that they were used in Hemi cars.

Geez yeah here we go. Nothing wrong with them at all. Had one in my 70 Charger 3:91 sure grip 440 never a proplem.

25 is too cheap unless it's an empty shell with out R&P.

$100 for a bolt in and good to go non SG unit with 2.76 or 2.94 gears is more like it.

Usually $25-50 more for 3.23. and so on, and so on.

741 in what hemi cars? 741 and 489 had the small front pinion bearing. 742 larger front bearing. 489 had a larger rear bearing-no big deal. I sold a 741 3.55 with cone suregrip for $100. in 2011

Hey, I gotta 657 Case 8 3/4'' with 3.58 gears and a sure grip. Came out of a 58 Dodge pickup. Same internal as the 741 pinion.

And if you can find a n old Dodge truck axle housing ,you can slip that under your "90 and down Ram tow vehicle and have a better axle ratio option. Just remember that they changed bolt patterns in '85 and up though. I did that on my '90. Simple way to get rid of an 8 1/4 or 9 1/4 and front rotors from 84's interchange with 85 and up so ya get the same nice 4 1/2" bolt pattern. I used 741 cases in racing and had pretty good luck with them and they seemed to be cheaper and easier to find better ratios.

What he said; they get a bad rap, only problem with them is lack of gear sets; lots of OEM 2.76's, 3.23's, aftermarket I beleave has 3.55's and 3.73's. Look under old /6 pick up trucks; might find 3.55's, 3.91's, 4.10's. Think about it, if they put them under pick up trucks, how weak can they really be; farmers I knew were NEVER shy about how they used/abused their pick up trucks (3 ton of feed on a 1/2 ton truck).

I got a set of 4.88's from some one who didn't know what they were, set them up on a spool for racing

They have value, don't let some one BS you other wise

My old duster was built to run right on 11 seconds. Had a 741 case with 4.10s with a sure grip from an old dodge truck in it for 20 years and over a thousand runs on them. With 31.25x12.2x15 slicks. Sixty foot was 1.34 to 1.37. Kim

Man, I need a 2.94 741

One of the suppliers had a write-up on their website about what cars they came in, and compared them to another make, similar pinion size, no worries with a 741. Can't remember the site or details.

Found a 741 in a 66 Dodge van a guy was scrapping. 3.91 !

I think it was Dr. Diff, the detail that sticks in my head is that the pinion shaft diameter of the 741 is only .060 inch smaller than the holy grail GM 12 bolt and I don't remember any one saying the GM 12 bolt is weak. They are good units, sadly though they are not supported, typical of how the after market treats Mopar

My '69 340S FB has a 741 case 3.91 SG. If I go the A500 route, it might stay 3.91 or possibly 3.73. If I stay with it's 727, I'm slowly gathering parts for a 742 case 3.23.
I'd then take the 741 case and build a 2.94 SG to put under my '72 Fury III (360 with some upgrades). That 2.71 peg-leg is killing me at the start. True, it's more of a interstate cruiser, but it'd be nice not to get dusted at a light by a Honda Fit, lol.
