Iv been debating with myself what color to paint the metal part of my dash along with the steering column. I thought about black but that's just too simple then I thought about the body color but that's not gonna look "original" so I was looking and found this color its pretty close but not exactly the same as my original color and I have had a hard time finding the exact original color name so this is the closest iv found. The original color is like a metallic brown almost this color is called dark copper metallic what do yall think? If it helps I'm painting my car fk5 burnt orange. I will leave a color sample in the photos below.

There's a reason dashes are painted black or gray and a dull color... you'll catch a bad reflection off the windshield in the sun if it's not.. this is one of those ask me how I know deals LOL...
when I lived in Florida as a kid I thought it would be really cool to cover my dash and some kind of black and white camouflage material... I turned out onto the street in the Florida sun and quickly realized I couldn't see out of the windshield!!!. All I could see was a cool reflection of the dash...
Choose wisely grasshopper....

i like the idea of body color, i think it helps tie the exterior to the interior (depending on the interior color.) so when i finally freshen up my Dart, seeing that i am planning to stay with the original F3 body color and the car has black interior, the plan as of now paint the metal surfaces F3.
so i vote: body color

The interior color is gonna be white I forgot to mention that.

Here's an idea paint a piece of cardboard the size of your dash the color you want and then drive out in the heavy sun with the piece of cardboard painted the color you want on the dash that way when you can't see you can at least pull the cardboard off and continue driving..

You have a good point with that so I need to pick something matte. I'm kinda digging the brown copper color. Its similar to the original. And brown shouldn't be too shiny. The body color if left none clear shouldn't be shiny either would it?

I work on a lot of customers cars- Fords, Pontiacs, Chevy and such and their dash does not come out. They're welded in. The great part about our dashes is we can take them out and paint them and see what they look like and if they don't look good we can repaint it again. I think there's probably some kind of way to dull them up no matter what color you paint them, but just four s's and g's try putting something shiny in your dash on a sunny day and you'll find out my point quickly...

This is only going to be the color of the metal part of the dash and the steering column not the dash pad itself I'm gonna order a new black dashpad eventually the only part of the dash you can see the color is lower portion

True..

If you go with black, don't buy 3M trim black. I went to my paint jobber and told them I need dash paint and they quickly recommended trim black.

Problem is that it's lacquer and will melt under any kind of glue. I glued an emblem onto a finished dash already installed in the car and trim black melted and the emblem ran down and fell on the floor and made a mess.

Non lacquer thermoset paints are the best.

The pad doesn't cover entire top of the dash. Where dash is exposed, defrost vents, all need to be flat/suede finish. Glossy or metallic would reflect on the lower to middle part of the glass we look through. I suppose you could rework the body to stand the glass up vertical.
for what its worth, Glossy wont work on a package shelf either.

I didnt think the shelf was metal I thought it was a different piece. Good to know tho.

On my 67, I went with John Deere Blitz black, same as my hood and I also used it for one of my seat backs. It matches the original black one very well(it was gold). It has UV protection and lays down nice. My 69 notch came stock with black dash white seats and top and body was saddle brown poly. Probably go back together that way also.
