Upstate NY botched paint job help

Easy fix!!!

Wet sand the whole car with 800-1000 grit, touch up any areas that you may have sanded through on the orange.

Tape of the orange to clean up the lines on your inserts, do a light coat of sealer over the faded area insert. Paint your white first and make sure you have good coverage, 1/4 tape along the edge of the white, paint your blue fade. In order to make it look faded, you'll have to turn the gun pattern and flow down to make it spray like an air brush. It may take 5-6 coats to cover but this is what it takes to achieve that Faded Look, let the blue completely dry. Then go back and French Tape along the top of the blue before you apply the red, just make sure that the paint falls in the tape edge and not directly apply it as it will create a hard line and not the fade your after. Make sure you keep the gun settings for the red as you did the blue and just take your time.

Once everything is dry, you could have someone pinstripe it between the orange and white, then clear the whole car!!!

You have to remember that cars that had these crazy schemes from the 50-80's were painted with Lacquer Paint and they had like 12-14 coats of clear on top, they would clear them with 8-10 coats, water sand the clear with 1000 and reclear them another 4-6 coats and then wetsand and buff them out.

I had a body shop for over 12 years and I did some crazy jobs like this for guys with street and drag cars, it's a lot of work but if you take your time you can fix this with no problem!!!

Hope this helps!!
