New 408 build finally started

Taking a break from port work I plunged a hole along the tube and opened it up with a porting burr. 5 on and offs and things still won’t line up. Grind some try it, grind some more. I’m getting to the point of just grabbing my best set of stock location pushrod heads and finishing up this damn engine. From the looks of things my son doesn’t want to finish up his car for this year anyway. And my piece of crap sonic checker I bought is about worthless and not trustable.

I just had a thought. Remove the exhaust rocker and pushrod to get them out of the way. Use feeler gauges between the shaft hold down and intake rocker arm, on the intake port side. Keep adding feeler gauges until the pushrod goes in and you have ample clearance. My guess is the .350" you already have built in plus whatever the feeler gauge reads should be the correct amount of offset. Does not cost anything to try, and should show if a reasonable offset will work.
