68 barracuda blower switch... Gutted then re-gut

So I have my blower switch out and gutted. The nubs on the back of the wire leads inside the switch are worn and very thin, (burnt a bit as well). The spring is weak but I have managed to get continuity...
I found a very similar looking switch for a 72 d100 it looks identical save the lever and it has spade connectors instead of riveted wires. Has anyone ever tried to take the guts out of the 72 style truck switch and put inside the barracuda switch housing. If anyone has tried and had completely failed I'll give up. But it's only $18 Canadian so probably $12 American. If no one discourages me I'll give it a go.
Also thinking into the future, maybe hooking up a relay to the switch would make it last longer?
Any thoughts?
