any good ideas on how to fix a rotted out frame? got a couple holes that kinda equal one big hole in the frame part....need to fix for sway bar mounts

Cut it out to good metal, make a patch of the same size or larger gauge and weld it in. Car should be supported as to lot load the area your work on.

It might become a slipper slope.

Just make sure you cut out *all* of the rot... cut deep;-) I used the same gauge steel so that it was easier to weld...

how big of a job ya think?

Depends on how far the rot goes. It's what you don't see that is scary. I think they make patch caps for that area.

Tack in temporary reinforcement usint 3/4 - 1" square tubing where ever you can, including the interior if needed. Bridging a door opening can help keep it from moving if you are behind the A pillar

You can buy REPLACEMENT frame rails. It's allot of work, but you might want to consider it:-(

These cars are inherently weak to start with. I'm more than skeptical about those "caps". Caps would be better than what you have. Your floor pans must be gone too, unless they have been patched. Unitized construction really depend on plug welded flanges for strength. Those caps will not be as strong as a complete frame rail replacement or a properly spliced rail with sleeves. I can't find a reproduced complete rail. That would be the best scenario. That and good welding skills. You may need to find a donor piece.

That needs a replacement front frame rail. Whether new or good used. That's the only way I'd do it.

Here’s a repair I did on the end of my torsion bar crossmember. I sourced a rust free end, more than I needed but it was nice to have, supported the car on stands from as far front as I could, and under the rear axle, cut out the floor pan, repaired the stub end and gusseted it inside with some flanges, and plug welded the entire thing back together! Stronger than new probably!
