Looking for someone experienced willing to try and repair circuit board from my mig welder. Possible relay issue, but I also "zapped" it and blew diode off from "D7" spot.
Thanks
Steve

You can do it if you know what size/ type diode. Simple solder deal! Have faith!

Take the diode to a computer shop to identify it...or simply/not so simply get a schematic of the welder circuit board. What brand?

Based on the board etching it is a diode, or a compound. What happened when she blew?

Mastercraft, sold up here by Canadian Tire. I have the manual so I do have a schematic.
No computer shops open here. I figgered let someone here attempt it and put some $ in their pocket.

Takes some specialized tools to properly install (SMT) surface mount technology components like those. If your hands are REAL steady and your EYES are really good you may be able to do it with just a soldering iron and tweezers. Mostly though, too much heat can easily damage SMT components along with sensitivity to ESD damage.

That's why I posted a want ad. This isnt like soldering wires or copper plumbing. Everything I attempt lately turns to **** so let someone skilled attempt it.

The bottom of the diode looks fine. Photo the top side. You can also test the food with a multimeter. Typically infinite ohms one way, close to 0 ohms the other way. If you have a pencil type soldering iron and a magnafier you can fix it no issues. I used to resolder surface components smaller then that

Your only concern is if the copper trace on the cir board came off with the diode.

By the way there will be a line on the top of the diode on one end, paint or scribe. It should be on the same side as the line in front of the arrow on the board.

You can do this

Not as hard as you may think! Google is your friend! Based on the pics the solder and so to say flux is there and light heat will allow you to re-install that piece. JMO

If you understand the “why” it happened and have corrected it. Then the fix is easy, that is a light solder deal and need a small low heat pencil iron to do it.

D7 is a huge SMD diode I bet it is a 1206. Look at R3, you could solder that one too, and it is 1/3 the size. I used to do it all the time

Obviously the board is fucked right now. There were issues with welder(possible relay issue)
So diode needs repair and then the relay and rest of board needs checked.
I DONT want to solder/repair this.
I want someone else that is capable to diagnose/repair. It goes beyond soldering the diode.
Anyone interested?

A cold solder joint would produce all kinds of symptoms, and when it finally let's go it is done. I understand your hesitance. I'm done pressuring you to fix it your self.

I can do that Steve but don't know if I could test it out of the welder. If you can send down the board and any documentation, AND the old component, I'd be happy to give it a try Your inbox is full LOLOL

Thanks Del, lemme get a copy of schematic. Yeah friggin in box full all the time.
