Does anyone have any recommendations for purchasing a molded A-body hood pad that is of high quality and the shipping isn't $80? If there are cons to having a hood pad, please list. I would like to purchase it before all the parts stores shut down forever. Thanks!

The shipping will kill but they don't fold or roll them . It ruins them. The factory ones are like heat formed fiberglass insulation.

I found the hood pad at Layson's, sounds nice (no photo), but when I tried to check out, Google gave me an "Unsafe, certificate expired two days ago." I got past that but they wanted my credit card info without telling me what the shipping was.

IMHO, the only reason there was ever a hood pad was to make the car quieter for people outside the car. The negatives are a blanket of insulation that holds in engine heat, and a magnet for dirt the slowly sifts down while you drive and ends up in your air filter (and all over everything else). The longer you have it, the more you will hate it. All you have to do is remove one from an old car to understand what it comes to contain.

Only two companies offer a true molded style hood pad as you would find on the car as delivered from the assembly line. These two manufactures are REM and REPOPS. We carry the REM pad and it is a nice reproduction of the factory style pad. The problem is that these mats are relatively large in size and due to the size, they must go "Oversize" when they are shipped. They are also super fragile, so they must be packed well to survive the shipping. Anyone selling a pad that they claim is correct that it can be rolled up or folded to save you on shipping, then just know that it is not the correct molded style pad if that is a concern of yours.

I did give them a quick look and they did look nice. I will look again.

I got the DMT one and installed it. Looks great, but the fasteners are a bit tricky. There are two types of fasteners (one plastic, one metal), depending on make/model.

Looks good. I didn't use the metal clips. I didn't want to chip the paint. I went to NAPA and bought some plastic Christmas tree clips. I got Chrysler part numbers though. LOL Huh, I guess I don't have a good photo.

lmao, perfect, "you think you hate it now, wait till you buy one"! Reminds me of the Chevy Chase movie Vacation and new car scene at the dealership. Needed that laugh.
