I was poking around under the car last night, and noticed the front of the tranny has a gap in the forward sheet metal. For a bolt is missing, and I think there is a faint outline of where a cover plate used to be. Am I correct, that this area should be covered? I can make one easy enough out of sheet metal.

Yes, you are missing the small cover. You will probably find that the hole for the missing bolt is stripped, this is very common. If it is you may get lucky and be able to use a longer bolt, or you can heli coil it.

Thanks guys, I thought so. Myself and Mr. Jigsaw will fix this problem later tonight.

That plate was used when the converters had a drain plug in them.

Thanks guys. I cut another one out of sheet metal last night. It is not original shape but it works and covers the hole.
