My 69 Dart "AKA" The Blue Mutt

-
not much progress, still in oil p[an hell - the Kevko pan arrived and is a good quality pan, mine however had the baffle installed in the wrong location and hits the damn pickup tube, dead in the water again. I got back on cleaning the rusty rear I have been dreading, Im over cleaning and painting at this point but realized today I still need to clean up all the u bolts and hardware to mount the rear. Thie final deal for it is I let the rust stripper dry and can't get it off now, called it quits after that, gonna think some more on it.

So I could feel good about getting something done I mounted my new driver side mirror, had to drill one hole and mounted with ease.

Since I am anxious to get done so I can hear this thing run decided to crank the Mustang and listen to it for a bit, I have a few things left to clean up and adjust but its next effort will be body and paint, sort of why I have the Dart so it will keep me occupied, figured about two years to get that done at the rate I work these days, and I hate sanding, luckily no rust and only a few small dents, pretty stout built 351w, very tight in the 66 engine bay

That mirror looks good. I still have a passenger side mirror I need to mount one of these days.

when I did my rear end I didnt use a stripper to clean off the old paint. Just a wire grinding wheel on my grinder. A little dusty but immediate gratification lol.

probably had about 5 or 6 hours grinding, just couldn't stop, wanted it better LOL, I was starting to get close to the top of the rabbit hole with it, had to do something to drop back down

what was I thinking

I have a passenger side mirror to install, it may not get done until next year, no extras on the books anymore, all needed stuff only.

Did you say top of the rabbit hole?

Speaking of mirrors, do you have the dimensions or something of where exactly they might on both doors?

I got info for the driver side off the forum here, will see if I can find it or I can check mine, I was just going to mimic dimensions for passenger side as long as the bases are the same.

with my domed pistons cheapest option is have some X or J heads done, would have to work on any aluminum ones and that would drive the cost p to much
Eldebrock does make an aluminum set for dome pistons.

They have two versions for LA's one is open chamber, the other is closed chamber.

Bill aeroflow make a 65 cc head for the 340 here you can get from Rocket Industries bare just have them gone through as they will need some tidying up. I am using them on my stroker. No issues just get them checked over as guides will need reaming , had mine cc came out to 64. All threads were good I just used my own gear to fit them out. For a decent performance set up they work well if you massage the ports and get them breathing to suit the cam your running. And to add get the B 3 kit for your geometry if your running rollers.

At 64cc compression would hit 12.0 or slightly more, add the costs up and gets a little pricey to have enough work done to help, also amount of time to wait sucks also, that's what Im seeing no matter what option.

I Understand it does add up no matter which way you go.

yep, Im deep in the rabbit hole burning cash for light trying to find my way out - need a good run soon as the lackluster is fading - if I can get past the oil pan I will get back to having some positive vibes.

Oh boy. How about I sing that tune with you? Just ordered $1300 from Summit, and next up is likely the same from Dr. Diff!

I'm gonna call Summit today or look on Ameritrade and find out if I can buy their stock, figure I might as well try to make some money off myself

Bill what pick up your using because even with the kevco 301 I think I needed to heat the pipe up to get it to position it correctly and to get the mount to align on the main cap stud. Keep at it mate there’s light at the end. I just found it a bit irritating when they say it fits such engine and you need to modify the **** out of it to make it work . Well that’s hot rodding I suppose. It will all pass once your behind the wheel.

Kevko is sending me a new pan, I bought their pick up tube, I am hopeful that it all fits without modification, if not it will be modified in Bill's garage so it will fit. There are no dimensions shown on their website but looking at the center baffle in their website it does appear it was installed in the wrong location comparing alignment to mounting holes, more wait and see. realistically I could just knock it out, it isn't something they have on their stock replacement pan, this is the "cheater" pan, I just figured for 270 bucks I would not have to screw around with it

got a little better start, Kevko sent me a new pan ASAP, got here quicker than the last one, it still had an issue but the grinder and Sawzall took care of it, on the other pan the entire baffle was shifted to far to the rear, this baffle also had a one inch flange that I cut where the first one was a 3/4 inch flange, while this sucks the overall quality of the pan is pretty dang good, it seems to be made out of thicker metal than the cheapo one I have and the stamping at the rear seal actually is a stamping - off to install.

also a little progress on the rear - paint is done and its at least under the rear of the car - hoping today and tomorrow progress goes well

thanks, has felt more like a demo project rather than a build, this weekend should change it

I think we all have some extra time to play with our toys. I also have some things to address this weekend!

Bill, I‘ve been following also. Are you planning on racing? Just curious about trap door pan. Keep up the good work

first off, my car has no wheels, no suspension in the front or back and no rearend, it is a block of sheetmeatl sitting on 4 jackstands, so I win on the slowest car, both of yours actually roll LOL

Hot August Nights is a good time, have several friends that meet up every year and hang out, one of the cool things is to hang out at the Summit store in Sparks and go to the Big Boy Toy store when they set it up in Reno, and some gambling is fun too
I lived in Reno for 7 years, Hot August Nights and Street Vibration's always brought out the crazies and I worked every event.

not sure about racing, baffled pans never hurt anything IMO

HAN is fun as hell, great times watching all them crazies
