name does not ring a bell, where might i know him from?

RIP, John, I don't live very far from Muhlenberg county and grew up on the green river, I always loved his music, I was sure hoping he would beat the virus after coming so far with his cancer treatments. My dad worked in muhlenberg county reclaiming the strip mines and bringing back nature after the coal was stripped, we used to sing the song when we where down there, I actually got to see Peabody's shovel working before they buried it. They shut down the coal burning power plant in Paradise this year also.

what a damned shame, Thanks for the tune bodyperson. First time I saw Prine was in a sleazy bar under a parking lot in Blacksburg Virginia. John Hartford was the lead in and the place was packed past capacity. Blacksburg is in Montgomery County, Virginia so we all assumed that that Angel was from Our Montgomery and we were damned proud of it! I believe the year was 1976... Time to dig out some old albums and listen to those songs again.

I was afraid of that. On the weekend the local radio station said he was in the hospital.
My hat off to John Prine, and all those of you who got to see him live.

Yep, one of my all time favorites. His debut album is one of my three lifetime favorite albums. One of the best singer/songwriters out there imo. RIP sir.

Sorry, Last one I will post. I actually have bought this album 10-20 times when I see them on sale. I give them to people/kids to try to educate them on good music. Worth a shot...…

I would guess that Prine's best known songs are:
Paradise, which has been covered by many other singers.
That's the Way the World goes Round, also known as the Happy Enchilada song LOL.
Angel from Montgomery.

1995dak - thanks for posting these. C'mon, go ahead and post Dear Abbey...

Last time I seen him was 5-6 yrs ago and Carnegie music hall. They all walked out in 3 PV suits, paused for a moment, like he was going to say something, then immediately started to boogie. The place went electric and never stopped. I didn’t know him personally, but he just seemed real. And he never lost that. Anyone else see that?

I believe so. He has always seemed humble to me. At about 55 seconds in he completely bombs on the first line of the song. Laughs it off, oh well.

Mr. Prine would be upset if we were too sad about his passing so I thought that I would include the link above for Please Don't Bury Me
