Pretty easy once you get the right kit. Disassemble, blast it, paint it and put it back together.

Some seat foam dust in the pic, dangit

Yes I left all the steps out. lol Was in a big damn hurry to work on my seats.

No step by step but I did look at the FSM after I disassembled it. Here is a good tip that I did not do: After you pull the pulley off (Used a gear puller..Harbor Freight)
There is a retaining ring that you use a drift and hammer to loosen, that part comes apart pretty easy. You are supposed to use a center punch and mark the nut and case for reference when you put it back together you put the right amount of pre-load on on the bearing. I had to pull my pulley back off and loosen it a bit.

Here's a few more pics:

I used a hose clamp to hold the pump blades to the pump, have to compress the springs so it will slide together. Blades have to go with notch facing one side and cant remember but if you need directions pm me and I will send them. Lot easier to read than the tiny paper that was in the rebuild kit.

I am guessing this is the TRW pump, which came on early cars. The later Federal pump looks almost identical but does not have the long channel for the rear bracket. However, I wonder why your reservoir doesn't have the 2nd bolt hole.

I also rebuilt my TRW pump, using a kit (seals and bearing). My Harbor Freight "pulley puller" fit fine. I kind of recall a snap ring under the pulley that secured the shaft seal. I don't recall anything about pre-loading the bearings (screw up?). My main mistake was getting too jiggy and not photographing the orientation of the shoes. Staring at the instructions didn't help, so I put them in the way that seemed right. I wound a steel wire around the shoes to compress the springs to slide the "armature" in. I didn't fool with the pressure-relief valve.

Does mine work? I don't know since turns out I couldn't use it on my 65 273 since I changed to the later alum water pump and there are no brackets for that. I had to get a Federal pump and brackets (Bouchillon), though I later read that the Saginaw pumps are better. Anyway, my 65 Newport uses the TRW pump.

2nd bolt hole in reservoir? I wonder that too because the pump itself has a provision for the second bolt and the kit came with an extra rubber washer.

The factory service manual had a much better pic showing which way the shoes go on. Glad I checked again after I pulled the pulley back off.

Just a wild guess, but perhaps that reservoir was made to work on both early TRW pumps (yours) and the later Federal pumps. Perhaps the mechanic was supposed to drill a 2nd hole to use it with a TRW pump. That would only work if the Federal pump body doesn't protrude back more since its normal reservoir doesn't have that long channel (see Bouchillon's brackets).

Thanks 4spdragtop! This is good stuff. The video you included of the rebuild procedure helps me out a ton. Think it would be pretty straightforward to do with a good rebuild kit. My apprehension about no having a press or specialty tools is gone after having seen it done.
Thanks a bunch!

My pleasure, be careful how far you go without access to a press.
Post back how you make out.
Good luck
