Masters of Motors (MOM) the new EngineMasters Challenge (EMC)

For some past EMC entries Jesse has reworked heads far beyond what I’ve ever done(the PC “Victors”), so he knows what it can take to get a combo for these events sorted out.

That being said, I think trying to have 3 sets of high effort heads for this build could be spending time on something that could be used better somewhere else.
“How I would approach it” is......
I feel “if” the 308 intake port could be made to flow as well as the X head....... then those are what I’d use.
If a suitable guinea pig 308 head could be had....... I’d start with seeing if the casting can provide the needed intake flow without any holes appearing in it.
The ex ports are better than any other stock heads, so that side of the head should be an issue.

My suspicion is that Jesse has probably already done some pretty high level X heads...... at least good enough to where he could assess if the 308’s have the same potential or not.

I’m not really sure what the thought process is on also wanting to do some J heads, along with the X’s and 308’s.

I like your thoughts, I agree about Jesse's plentiful experience in high effort, though he differs in approach. None the less.

A few thoughts in return.
I just sent back those 308 heads that were sunk , maybe he would offer one for chopping. I really wanted to, but they weren't mine to chop.
Imo the 308 exhaust port is too small for 4"crank and rpms and getreally thin when made bigger. They do about the same as most mid high 260's till you tube and have nothing but a guide insert sticking out of the roof ..while it seems to me the j head has more meat for the bowl required to get 290's and larger volume exhaust ports with a tad more meat.
X heads can get pretty big too.
I personally think the 308 is better ootb, but a 576 says otherwise. So its definitely a middle child..lol
I have faith in the J heads, but they will take work. I'm confident in the X heads ease for upper lift air but they will need more cam imo, the 308 looks good n numbers but has less port volume on both ends ... but that isnt necessarily a fair shake in a side by side MAX EFFORT deal just as a start and gauge of work needed.. this is pretty interesting and I'm tuned in for sure.
