Who had a homemade mask made

-
I saw a thing somewhere about folding a bandana and using 2 rubber bands. They are at WalMart for $ 1 each but I bet they are sold out now. I have a drawer full! And rubber bands!

I friens of my pops is making them for first responders and gave us 2. They have removable filters and are washable( not the filter part.) I think im gonna send mine to my cousins wife who is a trauma nurse.
Lord knows she needs it more than i do.

I dont like the team but that is a nice job! Lol I am a ac west rival fan! Go Broncos!!

Here ya go. Mask on the cheap-o
At the local thrift shop they sell T shirts for 50 cents on Tuesday. I would buy a bunch for work shirts, cut the sleeves out and use them for rags.
Now since you can't find a mask to save your soul. And if you're hoarding a bunch you should really give some to a nurse. Anyway. Cut the sleeves off and you get 2 mask for 50 cents.. Do they help? Don't know, but have to be better than nothing. If not you still have a work shirt and 2 rags. Just trying to help out.

I have a bandanna from the 70's that has a pictorial guide to all the ***** houses in Nevada... planned on using it for my face scarf for racing this summer.

Just made mine. About to go out with it for the first time.
I predict that I will feel like an idiot walking into the store with a mask on.
I'll report back in a couple hours.

Funny thing. I went to Walmart yesterday and many customers were wearing masks. But I didn't see one employee wearing one!!

Was just in Ace hardware and 90 percent were wearing masks, shoppers and employees

That's what I was thinking, a couple months ago, if I walked in wearing a mask, they'd probably call the cops, or at least security

the big thing i hear about now is 3d printed hooks to catch the strings on, so they don't pull on your ears

I have about 10 N95 masks but they are so old, I dont think anyone would accept them. so I just wear them. 4 have the exhaust flapper valve. Customer gave me 2 cheap surgical masks yesterday after I handed her her modem through the door for her install. Better than any tip! She was so appreciative that I worked outside in the rain for an hour to get her internet installed.
The n95s can be cleaned but Don't use any kind of liquid on them put them in an oven and not on and the rack filled a small shelf out of wood and hang them by the straps but the oven at a 158 For a 160゚ for 30 minutes and it will kill the virus or anything that's on it. If you use liquid it gets rid of the I think it's like negative ions or something in there that helps catch the particle dust and the virus stuff that goes through so you don't want to Clean them that way.

Went to my local Ingles in Dawsonville with mask in pocket. Very few patrons wearing them and only employees with direct contact to raw food were wearing them. It stayed in the pocket, but wiped everything down outside the store. Have a pile of wipes going on in the passenger side footwell of the 2015 Dart from ventures this week. No Paper products, trash bags, but lots of proteins to be had. Wife is still not furloughed so I get the Duties. Was told to expect lines and one way isles. It was not the case.

We have a latino tech that is tatted up, did time and has a shaved head. He wears a blue plaid bandana across his face and a Raider hat. Looks like something out of "Colors" He's a great guy but not something white bread granny wants to see knocking on her door or coming into the backyard looking for her equipment.

I started a post about this a while back...someone went off saying that medical staff can not wear them blah blah blah...well smart guy....care to explain why EVERY STAFF member at my wifes rheumatologist is wearing home made mask?? Sure, they are not acceptable in a trauma unit. But for every thing else they are fine.
My wife had me make her this jig, speeds things up a bit...

I made about 8 of them with me on the scissors and ironing board, and the GF on the sewing machine. I kept one for me, and one each for customers I have to stand close to at times. I wash them daily along with whatever I'm wearing at work. Kind of a PITA but it's a necessary thing right now.

For those that want to know the filtering capabilities of the 2 Layer Cotton masks and the 2 Layer Polypropylene Fabric masks, here is a test for each as follows.

Both the Cotton Fabric and the 100% Polypropylene Fabric filtered quite well. The first Layers caught most of the white baking soda on the test using a Shop Vac with a black sock over the end to show if any backing soda pulled through the filter materials.

2 layer orange cotton test:

Single layer cotton opened up as 1 layer, after test:

2 Layer Gray Polypropylene Fabric test:

Gray Polypropylene opened up as 1 layer after test:

First layer does a great job of catching the debris. 2nd layer for added safety.

Sent a few of the Gray Polypropylene Masks off for our local Mail Carriers and Post Office employees here in town.

Some are cutting up and using hepa vacuum cleaner bags for mask filters. Not sure about micron size if these are a true hepa
