Ever since we got donkey's, they tend to poop in the same places and we always got funny little mushrooms popping up out of the piles.......
You got donkeys? Cool ! They are hell on coyotes. Iv always wanted a mini farm some goats chickens pigs a beef every year etc.

I find em in a small patch of woods on the property for years.
You got to sneak up on them!
My go to dish is some steak or ground sirloin patties, I toss the shrooms in the steak drippings in a cast iron skillet, make a gravy, and some mashed taters.

I don't think spreading spores does much, they can't grow them in captivity that I am aware of.

Well, like I said no one really knows if it helps, but it can't hurt.

You can grow them if everything is just right. There is a company that sells spores that will generate in your back yard if you build an area for them with like characteristics like they would be found in , in their natural habitat. I was reading on a foraging page the other day where a guy had bought some and tried it, he said he was able to get some to pop.

if you get a good mess, freeze them. all you do is wipe mud/dirt off, put them in a small plastic tub, bugs grass and all. don't clean them first. put water on them and freeze them in nov/dec you will feast like a king on them.

Don't they turn to mush? I dry mine and put them in a brown paper sack store in a cool dry place. When it's time to eat them just plop them in a bowl of water and let them reconstitute.

I usually put them in a bowl of salty water in the fridge the night before I cook them.

Iv never eat them iv always been scared too. Every spring I see all my friends on Facebook hunting them and talking about how good they are. I just stumbled across these. One of my dogs got into the neighbors trash and drug it down into my yard and I was cleaning it up and just looked down and there it was the more I looked the more I found lol there is quite a few of them.

Pick them, slice them in half from top to bottom, put them in a bowl of salty water, that will help clean them and kill any bugs, the bugs if any will usually float to the top. Take them out of the water pat dry with some paper towels and roll them in flour. Fry them in real butter until they are just a little crispy.

They are soooo good you can't sit still while eating them, they have a nice earthy smokey flavor that can't be beat.

they will only turn to mush if you clean them before putting in water and freezing them. clean mud and put bugs, grass and all in tub and water and freeze asap.

We find this we call lion's mane on our property in WI. Tastes kinda like lobster/crab when cooked in butter.
