Curious what's out there for a header for my 440 dart sport

I have a Lakewood bellhousing n wish I put it on block after back of block plate, flywheel and clutch. The 95-98 Dakota starter is hitting upper part of bellhousing. So im off Thursday n Friday guess im going to grind away on bellhousing to get it to fit. Would have been simple when engine was out of car. Gotta love fab work Haha n guess I do since after 35yrs I'm still doing it glad it's not the same project.

I see no way those will work in an A body. I hope I am wrong.

I am right. Those are only for the B and E body. They will not fit your Dart.

Here is the detail page from Hedman. Scroll to the bottom where it says "VEHICLE APPLICATIONS" and you will see all they fit are B and E bodies. They are not an A body header.

Seems as though these are the same as the 78030 uncoated only difference is the coating I think?
You think these would work with a low deck?

78030 (B-body) works with a low-deck in '67-76 A-body and a manual steering box. As already mentioned in this thread, see the BBD Tech Pages. The dings were quite small and not many of them in my '72 with 451.

BTW, #6 plug is next to impossible even from under the car unless you have an extra joint in your forearm! The easy fix is to hole-saw a 1-1/2" opening in the fenderwell directly opposite the plug. Then you have access. Just put a metal (not plastic, ask how I know) hole plug to keep wheel splashes out of there.

After all this time and wasted effort yes you're right. Those headers do not fit and I'm living proof that my best effort to not pay 1K for headers. Well I just bought a set of TTI RB 440 headers and man wish I listened to you months ago.

Well good! I am glad you got them to work. I'm sure these guys would love some shots of the dents so that might help them as well.......if you can get some.
So after all this time I stand corrected and the other gent was right. I wasted a lot of time putting them in and marking them then remove them and massage them with a soft faced mallet. The engine never sat right passenger side header was on fender well just wasn't working out. Finally broke down and ordered TTI RB 440 headers. Been fighting the wrong part for so long and getting really good at R&R ing these pita headers that when I had the right part and was installing them they fit so good almost fell out the bottom haha wasn't expecting it to go this easy. So if I can save some hard headed guy grief and lost time listen to these guys they have a lot of experience between all of them. They look good and sound great happy I bought the TTI headers just wish they were priced for the working man.

Yes your wrong and yes it was and is a *****. They're installed but with everything on this Dart RB nothing is easy. Im using a soft faced mallet and using a sharpie have shaped the tubes on drivers side to give a RCH on my manual steering gear and torsion bar also the inside for tail end of starter housing. My passenger side is hitting 2 runners on torsion bar but it sits in there but tighter than I thought. There was no returning as you gotta start somewhere. My issue at this point is pass side tubes not allowing engine to sit up off fender well. To get these in I removed string column and moved manual master cylinder off to the side. Also had a not so good pick using engine hoist and tilting engine. Northern California is smoking hot now so swimming more wrenching less. Heres some pics so it's real if it's in pics right haha.

Tubes look bigger than 2'' in the pics !

I heard someone say once, "When you stuff a motor in a car that it was never designed for, you know who makes headers for it? You do!"

I hit the disagree button , my tti headers dont and havent hit anything, even w/ a 440 block and raised port heads , just gotta get the front end way up in the air to take off or install them , way up , and work the starter at the same time !

So for you guys using the TTIs are you bolting them to the motor and dropping it in? Or can you actually install them with the motor in place?

I think these are TTI headers. I’ve never had a set till now as they came with this car. One of these days maybe it will actually run. Lol

wires aren't my problem no.6 plug sucks no room to even get hand in. THANKS
Drilled this access hole for #6 plug made life easy. I actually routed the wire through the wheel well in a shielded tube

I put the motor in from the bottom, lifted it a touch and it put them in right there. Worked beautifully. Only thing I had to beat on was my 450$ oil pan.

LOL. I totally agree that what I said could have been worded better. I meant something more like putting a 440 in a 51 Chevy. There are probably a lot of possible combos that will not have store bought header options.
