Has anybody used this top-end power package from Hughes engines?

Hughes Engines

What kind of compression ratio and horsepower could I expect with this on a stock 440 crank and block that isn't decked?

Well....... on someone’s dyno it apparently makes 540hp/560tq.

I don’t think I’d see those numbers here out of that combo of parts....... but it should be real close to 500hp.

I don't think so. Wrong cam IMO. The heads can support it, but the cam is wrong for a stock compression longblock of any year. Also not sure if the piston to valve clearance will be ok with their lobe and that lift and no valve relief.

That Hughes kit comes with pistons that (according to the information on the Hughes site) will yield around 10.5 compression with the E heads.

Technically, the stock rockers will work, but 50yo stamped rockers, fast rate cams, and increased spring loads isn’t usually a recipe for long term reliability.

Pushrods might work, just depends on how the length works out with the new parts.

My pops is looking into some hop ups for his 440 (in a B-Body) so this one caught my eye.

Can I ask a dumb question? How the heck do you actually "use" 540hp in an A-Body? Do you guys drive around on DOT legal slicks all the time? :D

I have a similar setup in my Valiant, smaller cam and with 295 rear tires you have to squeeze the fun pedal for a several yards or the rear tries to pass you LOL

I have 600 hp in my Duster. It drives easy on the street as long as you don't give it too much throttle. Around town I rarely use more than 15% throttle opening.

I didn’t see the pistons. Weird how a top end package means the lower end gets torn up for it. It’s more of a “power package”.

I may not do the kit, but I like the E-eddy's and a few of the components in the kit....
