At this time I cant afford headers. Tried to buy dougs from autozone w/ a discount code. NO GO Any ways I think I will look into a pair of exhaust manifolds. What is a good year for them ? What are they going for now a days ?

Probably the best would be 68-70 340 manifolds but they are very pricey. I'm using Magnum truck manifolds they flow much better than the log type manifolds in other sbs and they are cheap. The ports don't match up well but that's nothing a die grinder can't fix. They come with a 2 1/4" and 2 1/2" outlets depending on the year of the truck.

What are you putting them on again? The HP 340 manifolds usually fetch $500 a pair.

I noticed you're avatar shows a 383 Barracuda, if this is for a big block ignore my last comment.

If you have a LA engine I would suggest '64-68 , 273/318 manifolds because of the left side twisted escape . 2 bbl or 4 bbl. no matter . cheap and easy .

What about 71-73 340 or 360 Manifolds. They usually aren't near as much as the
68-70 Type.

The magnums will flow much better though.

Mags if they fit, early 340's if you got 4-800$. 360's are all that are left and they are just 318 design with 360 ports. Mani's aren't terrible if you give them a nice 2.5 headpipe, none of this 1.5 kinked crossover BS.

Here's a picture of the magnums in my car. It's tight on an early A so I had to mill down the driver’s side a bit.

I bought a 408 with low compression. The guy ran a turbo. Only has a few passes on it.

The 72-73 340 drivers side manifold is still a good design with a large exhaust port. Still pretty reasonably priced. The passenger side is pretty choked down.

A 408 really needs headers but 68-70 HP manifolds or the Magnums would work ok. They will take horsepower from the table though.

yea I know im hoping its just for the time being ill have to save up the money for headers. Can you give me some info on the magnums ? I know nothing about them. what years what trucks ect

They came on all magnum v8 engines in dodge trucks and vans, I'm not sure what years (or models) have the 2.5" outlets do a seach on this. Go to a boneyard they can be had for 20 bucks. Be sure to port match the manifolds to your heads and keep in mind they exit toward the back of the heads but I personally had no clearance issues. FYI there are a lot headers available that are much cheaper then Dougs, and long tube headers will make more power. I personally hate headers as they create a lot heat, they hard the install, and the always leak eventually. I'm running manifolds and because I have a driver, and yes I'm probably loosing a little power but they so much easier to deal with in imo. If I was racing that would be a different story.

I would start by trying "Magnum Manifolds" in the search function. O bet there's a couple dozen threads about those manifolds.

manifolds to use:
Passenger side is a Jeep Grand Cherokee PN-53009376 has a 2 1/8 outlet to head pipe
Driver side is a Dodge truck, van or Dakota PN-53006619 also 2 1/8 outlet to head pipe
hope this helps in your quest for manifolds
I had these on an e body and worked out well, as mentioned by Valkman the ports dont quit match up but nothing a die grinder can't fix. I have a post on e-bodies only, 360 exhaust manifold
I did do a mock-up on a 73 Dart swinger I had and they did fit but were tight to the fender on the passenger side and also was a manual steering car so there was good clearance on the drivers side. I have pictures some where I'll see if i can find them and post.
