Is it me or is the hole for the gas cap stamped off center? Car is a 1971 Dart. What have people done to correct this?

off center for sure, would seem likely that is not right.

I would contact AMD directly and see what they say.
Toll-Free: (833) 404-4777

Would need to weld in the hole with a patch and cut a new hole out that is centered.

not sure if this is a generic pic of a 71 Dart from AMD but this is from their website for a 71 Dart and according to them they only have 2 remaining.

Makes me wonder which is off center- the hole or the recess... Hole is easier to fix if necessary- the recess not so much.

I tried enlarging the pic and quite honestly it shows the hole with a similar deviation from center

I didn't even bother to see what it looks like on the website. Thanks for that. Also the fuel fill and gas cap are not in my posession yet. I'll mess with it once all the parts are here.

your welcome

Measure and make sure the recess is in the proper location (compared to your stock quarter). If it's not, it will skew your filler tube out of line and your fuel cap won't sit level/flush.

Yeah, I'd wait until I had all of the parts (filler neck & cap) in hand. Then do a trial fit to see if anything needs modifying.

When I was at Carlisle last year I looked at both skins left and right for 70 dart at a couple of vendors.
Each vendor had the fuel cutout offset like OP indicated. None would address them issue when I inquired. Went with Stephens performance for the passenger side figuring I’d wait until I seen one that was correct for the driver side. The passenger side skin has a small issue , it is with the side marker light cutout. It is too long horizontally by 3/8”. Minor issue but I called Stephens and was informed that’s how they all are that’s how the dies were made ok not correct but again minor issue. Yesterday at Carlisle I picked up the driver side skin for 70 dart the offset fuel cutout was still offset, inquired but same issue. All the skins Stephens had and one other vendor all were the same
Bought it anyway (got the clearance discount also)
I noted other A & B body panels were correctly punched.
My Plan also is to reinstall the gas tank filler tube and trial fit the panel along with the side marker then I will consider contacting AMD
POOR QC is my opinion

My AMD quarter panel fuel filler die punch is off slightly which shows when the cap is installed a slight tilt. I can live with that. If the punch was 1/4" forward it would have been perfect. It's a matter of measuring correctly when lining up the die punch.
