What Are You Doing To/With Your Car Today?

-
Got the Cuda's doors back on, and drug out my engine/trans options. Kid has been helping me in the garage.. he's 17 and been stuck in the house for a month, so he's all in with helping me out in the garage.
The engine/trans on the right is from a '74 Dart I drove 180 miles home summer before last. All original, never rebuilt 318/904 with 160,00 miles. Ran good, but wheezy and weak.
The engine/trans on the left is a 360/727 from a '76 motorhome I parted out a few years ago. 60k original miles, engine was pretty snappy. Short stock 727.. found a receipt in the glove box for a 1k rebuild on the trans 2k less than the odometer.

Got a lid off a plastic tote bin and glued the sections in to cover speaker holes.I then covered it with marine black carpet contact cemented on right to the sheet metal. This is what I ended up with.I couldn't think of a nice way to get around the bars.

Its mounted in the factory location where the stock 4x10" speaker went under the dash. I just traced the speaker bracket onto the aluminum plate, eyeballed where I wanted the new speakers, traced them also, and used a 4" holesaw to cut holes. There is guy on here that used to or still is selling these brackets, I just had the tools and material to do it or else I would have contacted him

That is awesome I love it! I may steal this idea! I pulled my original speaker the other day when I removed the dash pad...well I will let the picture speak because I have no words to describe it haha

Yep that's what mine looked like too! Going from no tunes to great sounding music makes such a difference driving the car lol. Just finished up my install. I cut the original plug off my AM stereo and bought new J hook connectors and soldered em on the new stereo harness so it still uses the factory illumination and power wires. Still gotta cut and mold the stereo bezel into the dash trim

Today was a big accomplishment. I installed a separate transmission cooler with all new lines and fittings. Installed a new quicksilver shifter where the previous one was a column shift. Installed the lokar kickdown lever and setup to the efi. I still have not adjusted the kickdown but it is in place. All this was easier without the driver’s floor pan in. That comes next week

43 inches...thats all i can fit with the exhaust hangers i got on there

Awesome and productive day!
302 heads gasket matched and cleaned.
I was not brave enough to open up the exhaust runners wide enough to fit my wooden handle screwdriver all the way through.

@318willrun would you get a measurement for your screwdriver handle diameter and maybe post it in the description on your YouTube video?

Soaked the heads with degreaser and drove down to the quarter car wash, washed the car while the heads soaked some more. As soon as I started washing the car, we got a powerful thunderstorm. Just more scientific proof that if you wash your car, it causes rain.

The Thunder Gods of Torque showed their passion for Mopar and started their big blocks and small blocks and roared across the heavens leaving great big huge billowing clouds of white tire smoke in the sky, enough to make the hairs on your arms stand up and take notice.

Also got some aluminum cutting dremel bits to start in on matching the intakes.

After all the work my son and I went for a long walk together, that was the best part of the day. :)
It was a good day.

edit:
looks like I'll be lapping the valves in some time this week, then I can get some flapper wheels and polish the chambers. May as well do this over the top stuff now, even if I'll only be running this 318 for a year or so. It's not like I'm short on time. lol I figure I'll do the final polishing after everything is together so I don't mess up the seats.

This is the proper way to show our dedication to our Lady of Blessed Acceleration...

Made a China Freight run. Although it's only about 6 miles from my house, I drove for about an hour and found a nice flower patch at a local lake. Too bad the sun wasn't at a better angle.

Was going to do this a year or so ago... had picked up a slug of T6061 aluminum, but never pulled the trigger as there were better and more fun things to do... Then along comes covid19 and the world comes to a screeching halt ! So now I call this my COVLID2020 project and fired up my Manual Lathe (No damn CNC) to make my Aluminum Billet COVer LID for my Air Cleaner... for an exact fit for the (K&N E-1120) filter I use... For the lower Large Air Horn base plate I made a Beauty Ring to match the top cover and to hide the rubber base so only the breathing Pleats show...

That, my friend, is a piece of art work.

Working on front brake lines ,it was a tricky task to get the firewall line in with engine and ac lines in the way. In the pictures you can see I marked the pass side bends with black marker and straightened it out, sliding it across, then rebent ,worked? The replacement dorman brake hose i had to grind flat spots so it would fit into bracket where it meets steel lines on caliper. The OC Maryland cruise cup was some motivation last 2 years I've had to go without out a ride so hopefully this October is different! If covid bans lifted.

That looks AMAZING!

i got all the fittings on the return style fuel pressure regulator

i now have everything i need to change over the fuel system...except for the drive to do it
a little worried the fuel lines will interfere with the sub frame connectors i want to build

Pypes exhaust installed today. Other than the off angle of my headers every aspect was perfect. I had to go to a local muffler guy to have him bend a custom angle. Awaiting a driveshaft.

Started off my 1st week of forced vacation. Healthcare company I work for asked all employees to use 80 hours of vaca and/or sick time in the next 2 months so I started my first week of vacation to install stripes on my now ratty muscle car. Hopefully bodywork, paint and another set of stripes somewhere down the road. What do
you think for an IT guy with no previous stripe installations? Will be doing the other side tomorrow.

Wow. Awesome work. . That looks amazing.

Starting to assemble the front end after replacing tie rod ends, ball joints, control arm bushings, and refreshing the brakes. That lower control arm ain’t easy!

Did a number of little things today.

Made a new spark plug wire to replace one that got burnt during the first start-up of my Magnum swap. I was watching everything else and missed the wire.

Installed the original hard fuel line up past the alternator. Also removed the regulator and gauge. Don't need it with the electric pump. I love the clean look.

Repaired a bad gauge light socket on my under dash oil pressure gauge.

And cleaned and painted the horns. They were pretty nasty looking.

I moved the front bumper as tight as I could and removed the bumper attachments. Also the front tires and rims are on. 15x7 rims 195/65-15s. Next I have to set the ride height as the bump stops are hitting a bit. FSM says 1 7/8 inch difference between adjusting blade and lower ball joint housing.

Love that color scheme!

Lapping in the new valves. Seeing some progress!

I'll post up more pictures as I progress.

Intake valves are sealed power V1722.
Exhaust valves are part number V3951.

I am not going to spend the money for a three angle valve job on these heads, but I will for the 308 heads for the 360.
