I am getting bad exhaust smell in my 70 Swinger when I roll down the window. All the body plugs are in place and the exhaust is not leaking. Could it be the trunk seal? It was replaced 3 years ago when the car was painted.

Where does your exhaust terminate? This is easter, is your exhaust holy?

While you're driving or stopped or both ?

You could rig up a fan to suck air out of your car.

Close all windows vents etc, then get a smoke making device and have some one in the car look for smoke to get sucked in

I had a cracked exhaust manifold that caused the same thing

and the tips extend PAST the rear bumper how far ? pic maybe
Factory distance I think

Exhaust can come up the steering column. They put seals in the column to stop that. Just a thought?

Just saying, if your running rich at idle your going to get fumes in the car. If your eyes are burning I would be taking a look at the carb. Of course you should still check your exhaust system for leaks and make sure it exits the rear. Are your floor pans solid?

Floor pans were replaced.

REALLY check the trunk. Pipes extended past bumper do not matter if the trunk/ underfloor leaks, because the gas is sucked up against the car. Ever notice that many cars get the bumper/ trunk really dirty in the rain? Part of this is because of the vacuum generated going down the road

Get in the trunk and shut it and look for light. Have someone hose it down and look for water
