I threw the outer ring on my Magnum harmonic balancer/damper and this one was recommended by Summit racing.
Problem is, the sales guy couldn't tell me which weight to use for the Magnum, nor if there were specific instructions included with the balancer on which weight to use.

PRW High Performance Sportsman Harmonic Dampers 2331841

Anyone know for sure?

Thanks

PRW SFI BAlancer P/N 2431841 which balance weight.

Medium sized weight, according to someone else's research from their catalog.

Anytime.
Most of us expect a parts wholesaler to have the details/info of the product brand they carry, right? Summit has many, just like Jegs, that have about no helpful info.
I sure as heck don't expect it. I never buy a part from them that I don't know 100%b already. Distributors for auto parts are like distributors for anything elss.... they are good for 3 things:
Pricing, warehousing, and shipping.

Never expect technical expertise from them. I follow this rule in dealing with distributors in my regular business and don't get caught flat-footed.

Be careful when choosing after market harmonic balances. My son and I both spun Summit brand SFI dampers. I’m a big fan of ATI balancers but I’m a racers and they aren’t real cheap. An engine builder from New York recommended Powerbond balancers for my lower horsepower builds an so far so good.

Doesn’t BluePrint have a magnum style balancer available now? @Johnny Mac
Yes, Blueprint does :)

Mopar Small Block Harmonic Balancer | 273 | 318 | 340 | 360 | 408 |

$85 with Bolt, Washer, and weights for all SB's.
non SFI however, if it matters.

Just curious.. Any clue as to why it failed? Just old rubber?

Probably, but I can't tell for sure because the rubber was gone and the ring was intact and hanging on my pulley.
It was the original 1996 balancer, so can't really blame it.
The one I ordered yesterday says it's "ribbed for her pleasure" OH wait, that was something else.:D
This one says it is splined in the center to keep it from separating.
The one I ordered should be fine for a daily tromper.

Had I waited I would have known about yours and very likely would have ordered it.
But I didn't and ordered one yesterday.

My 96 mag truck lost the rubber too about 4 years or so ago. Bought a doorman.
I like pioneer & powerbond for street stuff.
Honestly I've taken your run-of-the-mill pioneers and spun them up 7500 RPM for years and never had them slip on me

I like the Professional Products balancer's.
I have used them on Fords and I'm gonna use one on my Magnum 360 I'm getting ready to install.

How the hell did I miss that? :D
Thank you.

I got one of those dampers a little over a year ago and it was frustrating figuring out which weight went with which engine, nothing in the box or on the Summit site about it. I had to dig around the web for the PRW catalog to finally find it, no one on FABO had run one on a 5.9L Magnum yet at that time. What a stupid pain in the butt lol.

Hey I remember that post. Oh yea because I made it. Lol but a agree it is very frustrating trying to install parts when it comes with 3 diffrent weights and no instructions on which one goes with which engine. Lol also I be upfront and say I am not very impressed with this balancer. What I am talking about PRW must only put just enough powder coat on it to cover it and that's it. The frist one I got almost all the powder coat was rubbed off the back and some of the outer ring wear the timing Mark's were. Also one of the counter weights was lose in the box and just floating around. I will say summit took it back with no problems and sent out another one, before I could send the bad one back.
Ok got number 2 in the mail. Its got some of the powers coat missing in the back. But just one little spot that you cant see. At least this one the outer edge looks good and doesn't have the powder coat worn off. I needed to get my dakota running and didn't feel like wating another week to get number 3 Balancer.

Mine came with the correct weight already installed for the magnum motor. (medium one)
I have had it all back together for a few days now and everything is peachy.
Cool glad it worked out for you. Was yours the SFI one? I also found out mine had the correct weight already installed too. Most of the problem I had with mine was the black coating being worn off.

X2 on that most likely NOT being powder coating. Balancers have rubber internals that will not survive the heat of the cure. My bet is an epoxy paint.

Well looks like I was wrong. I looked at the description on summit's website and it says mine is black Epoxy painted.
