What is the proper color black? TX9 or a semi gloss? Thank you.

Gloss black or body color, whatever your preference is. I prefer gloss black with chrome lugs. Body color with poverty caps looks good too!

Year of car & options come into play if going back original.

Is is coded for wheel covers or hubcaps?

I painted my spare body color, thinking I was going to paint the rest of the rims.
It was too much orange for my car.

Original dog dish hubcap car with black wheels, late 71 build. I will do them in black but what is the correct black?

I'm pretty sure in 71 they would have been body color with dog dish caps.

ALL wheelcover cars had satin black.

What is the paint code for wheels on your broadcast sheet?
How I wish I had the broadcast sheet, only a Fender tag. I do know the wheels are original to the car, 5.5 steelies with dog dishes and black in color as my SPD was 07/09. I am not sure if the stock wheels would be a low gloss, semi gloss, TX9 or what the factory used.

If I had to guess they were probably a semi gloss finish similar in sheen to a plain steel rim you would typically find in the trunk as a spare tire. They probably pulled steel rims off the assembly line with the semigloss black primer, and just mounted tires on them, smacked hubcaps on them. The mentality back then was they will be junk in 10 years anyways. By the time rust pops through the black primer, it will be in the hands of owner #2 or 3 who probably wont care, or will have been upgraded to mag wheels, or will have been junked. I believe the semigloss black primer was all that these were painted with. Except for cars that got the body color rims.
