Seems like the most dangerous tool in the shop lived up to it's reputation with me yesterday. While cutting out section of the rear frame rails it got away from me almost lost my hand, so please either get rid of this tool in your shop or go beyond safe with it, lesson learned the hard way for me, I'm no rookie, have hundreds of hours with this tool, so if it happened to me it can happen to you.

Yeah, they are pretty dangerous, especially when the guard is removed......and you really have to do that to get any sort of range out of the grinder. I use them all the time now and when I do, I always try to tell myself to be ready. .........but you know how that goes. That looks bad, but it could always be worse. I am glad it was not. When you heal up, put a tat there of a bloody cut with ripped up tendons hangin out of the hole. lol

Wow, that's worst angle grinder goof I've seen..
Can you make a fist? What does the Doc say?

JESUS CHRIST!!!!! That looks terrible. I remember getting schooled on angle grinders when I was in training. They showed a video of a guy who had been admitted to the hospital because he was using an angle grinder on some metal. The work was at waist height and he was pushing with his arms against his stomach. Well you can probably guess what happened......The angle grinder ""bucked back" and cut into his stomach. It took 700 stitches and a little repair to his intestines BUT the biggest problems (according to the doctors) was the tiny particles of metal that had been buried in the flesh and muscles. It left a pretty nasty scar.

All I can say is "OUCH", that's going to leave a permanent mark.
Holy Toledo !!! Yea I hope you come out this ok..It’s kind of crazy these car shows show guys wailing away with these tools no guards no protective gear. As you said, respect it. As it can real bad real fast...Swingn’

Looks like a hatchet wound or a shaved beaver, get some stiches. Had a 40 grit disk
take some meat off my knuckel I know it sucks.

Hopefully you get full use of your hand again. Unfortunately working on cars we all get hurt. I was doing brakes and rotors when I slipped with ratchet and scrapped my hand pretty good. It was almost healed when doing another brake job the caliper fell on the previous wound and opened it up again. I am pretty much healed now although slightly scarred.

Ugh! Makes me cringe just to look at it... You're right, be extra careful- and a word to the wise: spend the extra couple of bucks and get a grinder with a paddle switch and not the on/off slide switch... still no guarantees, but a step in the right direction!

I always use safety glasses and hold on to that thing damn tight!!!
That's messed up I hope you heal quick!!..

I know alot of guys take the left hand handle off for better clearance. . And that makes it real easy to hurt yourself. I have about an 8" scar on my right leg above my knee from a 7" grinder. Had the handle on and still can get away from ya. It cartirised mine. Didn't bleed for a week. Scab got wet ,came off and bleed like a stuck hog.
Good luck.

Yep, I have even watched a guy plug in a grinder with the switch on !! Very lucky, flew out of his hand and unplugged it self !! Seeesh...Swingn..

Hope your nerve system still in tact.
Get well however you need to.....

D.
Lost a chunk of muscle on index finger from similar situation.
Sawzall or torch for me after that.
Take care of that......

I have 3 angle grinders, none have a guard on them and one has a 6 inch wire wheel on it.
It's like handling a pissed off badger.

My Brother had a 7 inch wind up his untucked T shirt, split his upper lip to the gums and half way up his nose clear into the left nostril.

Still got arthritis in my left thumb, just about took it off with a 37 grit in a 4 inch last spring. Literally to the bone before you can blink, seeing bones or tendons is never good!

Ya my hands are gettin weak I don't use grinder unless no other way neighbor got both his hands with one almost took both of his thumbs off.

I wear the long tig gloves every time i use one of the "death wheels".

I wonder if gloves would have saved you?
