IIRC the output sizes on the heater are the ones that are different sizes. 2 different sizes with the same sizes on the tubes themselves so that each tube goes to a specific vent. Probably designed that way for ease of assembly on the assembly line

EDIT: i think my OEM hoses i have in storage have built-in clamps

Am I crazy (don't answer that please LOL) isn't the one hose 2" on one end and 2 1/4 on the other?

Yes they are different sizes, just check my 65 Barracuda and it looks like 2 1/2" at the dash end and 2" at the heater box. Although the hose isn't in great shape to measure.

I had this issue when I replaced the crappy defroster hoses on my 66. I made several trips to the parts store before I got smart(er) and took the old ones with me. Yes, they are two different sizes which makes no sense.

Layson's has them too. Same ones? Has anyone tried them to see if they are correct without having to modify them to fit? Layson's catalog says they're "exact reproductions", but the photo doesn't look like it is. Are they paper wrapped like the originals with the flat wire? Rubber/plastic? It mentions that they don't have the built-in clamp.

If they’re not as per originals in size and construction, they can’t be called exact reproductions.

I guess that's my question, is their photo a generic one for defroster hoses, or, the actual product? I guess I'll try to call them for clarification tomorrow.

So @cudamark what did Layson’s say?
I talked with Dave Layson directly and he said his "exact reproduction" hoses do have the same type paper-like cover material and the proper diameters on each end. He says the only thing they don't have is the built in clamp that the originals have. If you don't need the original look for a show car, He also recommends just getting his rubber version, as they are a bit stronger and less likely to tear.
