I am in the process of going through my 63 dart engine and transmission while I have them out replacing seals and any gaskets and any worn parts I find while they are out and have a question about the transmission.

I am trying to figure out what seals and o-rings I should replace in the transmission. I know the input and output shaft seals and pan gasket. I have a new input shaft seal and pan gasket, but am trying to figure out what size o-rings or seals for the shifter or cables or Speedo housing. I found the real seal through the slant six forum as apparently rock auto lists the incorrect output shaft seal. To confirm I found national 474260 or skf 11515. That sound correct?

Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.

Individual seals for your early 904 may be difficult to locate. I'm looking in my transmission parts catalog, and there are a fair number of seals/O-rings that are not listed separately. You need to buy a gasket and seal kit specific to the early 904. While I've purchased parts from Rock Auto, having worked in the transmission parts industry, I've noticed on their web-site, transmission parts (particularly early models) there are lots of errors in the listings.

"O" rings are often standard sizes, so a general "O" ring assortment should cover you.

That's true Murray, but it may also be time consuming. I'm not saying it's not a good idea, but the kit has all the parts and seals in one package. Parts for all older cars are getting more difficult to find. I had to get a Master kit for a client one time for an older model Packard. We bought our gasket sets and friction plates from OEM suppliers. My catalog had no listings for most vehicle built prior to 1960, so we went to our suppliers and they were no help other than going to, I believe Fatsco who specialize in pre 1960 parts. I found out as did my customer, the parts were available from Fatsco but at a cost. The 904/727 have most parts readily available because parts for the most part are the same since 1960. The exception is the what Mineallmine is looking for. For both the 904/727 early transmissions the OH gasket and seal kit if you want all those O-rings/seals has to be purchased as a kit. It's the cost of warehousing individual parts that has driven these small items into kits. Hell I bought a carb kit for the Thermoquad in my Challenger. The kit covered models from 1971 to 1974.

Actually I agree that a kit is the way to go, But the person here seems to be trying to buy things individually.

Actually, all I really need at this point is I believe 4 o-rings. The one for the dipstick/fill tube, the one for Speedo cable, and one for the 2 shift cables. I am curious if there's a seal or o-ring on the kickdown lever. Didn't really want to have to buy a $350 gasket kit for a few o-rings. Car is a low mileage car that has no previous issues so I want planning on rebuilding the transmission, just wanted to fix the leaks.

I was just hoping someone knew the dimensions of the replacement o-rings. Figuring out original diameter shouldn't be too bad but original thickness is a pain. Too thick and I damage them on install and they leak... Too thin and they go in ok but leak.

Automatic Kings in Riverside, Ca. on Rivera street sells them for $16. And they do ship. But you might have to order that rear seal separately. I get those at O'reilley's.

orieellys has national o-rings for sale each behind the counter, you just have to ask them because there idiots, and yes i use to work there lol.

I already have a full set of sae o-rings on order. Decided to buy a full kit as I use them frequently. Gave up going to parts stores to ask for individual parts as all the old school guys seem to be gone and all the new replacements have never turned a wrench. For most of the new guys if it doesn't show it on the screen it doesn't exist.

Will check this out. If it's that cheap I'll definitely be ordering a set... Maybe 2 as I have a spare transmission. It was supposedly completely rebuilt but if it's been sitting at all the same seals and o-rings could use replacing. Previous owner upgraded transmission and rear end as they were adding a turbo to the 225 slant.

I'm looking for this rear seal I buy a complete set specific for a 65 904 some reason that did not have this seal. And some of the things I thought it should have.

I know a high school teacher her students can only tell time with digital clock. They only know 9:40 if you say 20 till 10 they don't know what you mean

Just a FYI: The output shaft seal is different between 64 and 65 cable shifted 904's. I will assume 60-63 is the same as 64, but don;t know for sure.
