Didn't you just detune your engine for street use? Then added nitrous? Haha:poke:

I had one of those expensive high-powered starters and it was a piece of John until I took 318's advice and went to the junkyard and bought one for $22 that was laying on the ground underneath a magnum truck. I brought it home and doused it in WD-40 and wiped it off and did that repeatedly three times until it was brand-new looking and it's been the best starter I've ever had for the Duster..

That's what I'll do then that's what parts trucks are for right?

As far as the transmission and I would bet it's a 904? I would take that inside or under cover and set up babe for by 8 or 2 by 8 piece of plywood on the backs of chairs or if you have a frame stands. I don't have money so I can just use some chairs... Clean that transmission like a jewel on the outside and dump it out LOL spend $120 for a rebuild kit and $67 for a trans go to shift kit... And a generic jar of Vaseline to lube all the new seals.

Just drop it in from the top, leave the trans and pulleys off, it will drop right in.
I have changed alot of engines on tri-pods in the field behind the house when I was younger.

This guy's talking about this have big shops with rollers and concrete floors they can wheel their engine and k frame around on the ground that's going to be a big pain in the butt in the grass the way you're doing it pushing the car under it's going to be a big enough pain in the butt..
My first install from the bottom the car was in the stones outside. I built the complete assembly inside the garage door on the stone floor. I didn't want anyone stealing my things at night. Couple guys picked the front of the body up, Wheeled it in and set it on. Remember weight in the trunk and you can almost do it yourself if the ground is level.

I have been doing them this way since the 80's. Note the piss run off's for cows in the barn where we painted also the yellow front clip put on just inside the side door. I started off renting barns to store parts and do repairs. I was not given anything I have. I worked for it all and I started off with a Gas compressor ,floor jack, burning outfit, and a craftsman hand box of tools.

You don't need a fancy garage to have fun. Pics are from the early 80's

LOL I'm a very very self made man for sure as well. I'm sorry I don't have any pictures of me rolling around in the grass or fixing my car outside in the rain... Those weren't my most glorious moments.. I guess we both just have our own ways of doing things and I think that's where it falls...

I’ve had to work in conditions like that, but I was WAY younger back then. It can be done, but it makes it all the more dirty. And at my age...I’m not into rolling around on dirt.

But, you have to work with what you have.

Now that's how to get me to hit the agree button...

it's all in the rigging, especially if you're by yourself. i had forgotten, when i did the 74' i used a piece of square .120 wall tubing to hold up the car

Its actually a torqueflight 999 iv heard they are quite sought after tbh I had never heard of one I always assumed it was a 904. I put a shift kit in the valve body like 15 years ago when I was gonna use it for the dart back then and never ran it. It has been in storage ever since I hope I did it right lol. I bought a gasket kit and a new filter for it. Transmissions is something I know nothing about I can adjust a band but that's about it lol.

A transmission Guru didn't know anything about transmissions until he did... I knew nothing about them but now I do. If you're willing to learn their very easy...

Dartfreak, I kind of skimmed over this thread. You'll just have to think over any obstacle that comes your way. Man, I can tell you I've pulled motors in the dirt, in the gravel, and every other undesirable surface. I've used Come-along from a beam, I've used rented cherry pickers on dirt using 2x12's under the wheels of the cherry picker and constantly moving boards, all with the cheapo headers. Yes, I've worked by myself at times when extra hands weren't available. If you can port your own heads, you'll install a small block in a A-body.
P.S. - I never take a hood off a mopar to pull or install a motor

You know me I'm always willing to learn!

The way I've always done it is is like I mentioned I put the engine hoist on a sheet of plywood so I have a little mobility and the lift it up and push the vehicle back or vice versa. Iv never done one with headers tho so the suspension being in the way has never been an issue.

I don't think I have ever really had help putting engines in. I have never had a concrete floor, and only a few times had a cherry picker. Always moved the car under the engine/trans. The few times I did headers I just got motor in, lifted it up enough for the headers to drop in, lower the motor and put headers on.

I know this sounds stupid but without the fenders, Mine has no windshield interior no dashboard nothing endwithout the front end without the bumper and nothing on the front of that whole car a couple of strong guys can lift the front of that car up by hand and put it on jackstands up high. I say this because that’s what I had to do with my car when I was wedged in a very awkward situation. PS I had nothing installed in the car.
So in effect it was very light
