This was during the 17 year cicada emergence of 2004 in Cincinnati. They came out by the 10s of millions over the course of a few weeks. You never heard such noise! They were louder than my riding lawnmower when I was curing the lawn.

They are due back again next Spring...

Those SOB's are due back next year and I'm not looking forward to it.
If you've never experienced this, it's unreal. It's a constant drone that goes from sunup to sundown. They're everywhere and you can't walk in the yard without crunching a few with every step.
Ddaddy's pic don't do this justice. If we're not still dying of the Kung-Flu next spring, I'm going try to not be around here.
