Chinese made crap replacement parts

-
I read an article once from a manufacturer of restoration parts and he said the American companies will give a contract to the Chinese to fabricate parts for a specific time period to exact specs, say two years or something and then the contract expires and they have to stop production. They do that and then they open a clone factory and continue production or simply just continues making the parts but as the dye wear the tolerances get loose and off and things no longer fit properly and are out of spec. They also begin using cheaper substandard materials when they can as well.

I took the pledge NO MORE CHINESE PRODUCTS.
I'm done, I will pay more or go with out.

Really?

So then you're posting on this forum from an all- USA made computer huh? All US components in that computer? How about your phone? No?

Boy you have the wrong attitude.
We dont care who started it or why we just wont rid of them.
OBTW I stopped shopping at Walmart two years ago.
Wise up

He has exactly the right attitude, we did this to ourselves. And we're doing it to ourselves, his story is the perfect example. If Americans weren't so damn greedy (CEO's & shareholders) and cheap (consumers) we wouldn't be in this mess. All those Chinese made parts coming from American based companies and you think the Chinese are to blame? I've got news for you pal, the American company has the quality control oversight on that contract. They inspected the stuff and signed off. Or they didn't even bother.

If you "want" rid of them, then you should convince the American run companies to stop sending the manufacturing overseas. You might want to figure out spell check and Grammarly® before you start your letter writing campaign though.

Send them back

And replace them with what now? The USA made version that doesn't exist? A busted up original set that costs almost as much?

I accomplished exactly what I wanted which was for you and others to keep talking about it which will create awareness.
Keep up the good work.

Ok...give me a link where I can buy new tail light lenses for a 70 Duster that are made in the USA?
Score some originals and recondition them.
I never said it was going to be easy.
Thanks for your support.
Buy American

Try 'making' anything here.....pre Trump, it was almost impossible..Let Rodney educate you. Sad but true....

I should probably just shut up and move along to the next post, but old habits die hard
I agree with bluNblu, you can't blame the Chinese, if you want to blame someone blame greedy CEOs who only care about the bottom dollar, and where the shareholder comes first and the customer comes second
I used to work in a toy store in the 90s and this is a true story
Rubbermaid/ little tikes made an excellent product, if you bought a little tikes product for your child, chances are your grandchildren would still be using it
Well a certain retail outlet that begins with a W bought about 25% of their total production(maybe more it's been 30 years ago)
well this retailer told Rubbermaid they would have to lower the price of their storage containers or they would have to start purchasing from a different company
Rubbermaid explained that they could not lower the price and continue to make them in the USA
The retailer told them" well you'll have to make them somewhere else then"
Rubbermaid told them to F off, and now the retailer carries cheap sterilite storage containers made in China, and Rubbermaid almost went out of business
I'll admit I shop Alibaba and Ali express a lot(for those who don't know that's the Chinese Amazon)
If I'm going to buy Chinese stuff anyway, I'll save myself a few bucks and cut the Walton family out of it
Ok, rant over, moving along

This is true. Walmart did it to my father in-law's company that was made here in the US and Walmart told that company the same thing. They ended up in China. My father in-law was quality control. You would not believe the stories I can tell you. I will leave it at Nasty. China has no respect for the US so I blame all of them. The thing about Walmart, when the dad was alive he was all about USA made stuff. When he passed the kids took over and went right to China. Another thing China will make anything and copy anything they do not care. Scumbags. Not sure if you notice they buy stuff we make. They copy it and put out on the internet for sale. So now they are cutting out the middle man, the USA compony. Garbage makes garbage.
I have tell you about this. On the outskirts where all these companies are to make all this stuff. Hotels and restaurants have no toilets or toilet paper, you **** in a hole in the floor and wipe your *** with you hands. Then you wash your hands off. My father in-law used to bring his own toilet paper with him. He hated going there.

We need to stop corporate greed! and China

I try my best not to buy anything made in China. unfortunately its almost impossible but I do my best. My 68 Barracuda 70 Duster and my 68 GTO all parts from USA or Canada. unless legendary seat cover material is from there. thats only thing I don't know. I am trying to buy made In USA but it super hard and a lot of work to find stuff. I rather have less stuff and do less to pay more for USA stuff. I really want some electronics to comeback here, then it will open up a lot of things made here.
Its late here, sorry for any gammer mistakes.

Remember a couple of weeks ago when I said your posts were self righteous and pretentious? Way to prove my point with your "spell check and Grammarly" comment. You just can't pass up the chance to make someone look inferior, can you? And why? All because some guy put his opinion out there? He didn't attack you, Mr. High & Mighty, so why go after him?

99.9% of FABO members are really great people, 0.01% are complete and utter douche bags. Since you're an Aerospace Engineer, you're probably smart enough to figure out which group you are in!

But, I will say, you aren't wrong about where the blame lies.

There are a few of different views on this. If we can see all sides, we might have a chance on getting to the truth, buried somewhere in the middle.

1. The American consumer...
American automotive manufacturing is, generally, union based. This is not a slam against unions or union employees in any way, shape, or form. It's just a fact. And those unions will always get the highest labor rates for their memebers that they can. Anybody working in a union expects their delegates to do that. But, the cost of labor is directly transferred into the wholesale & retail cost of the product made by those union hands. And that means higher prices for Made in USA. Even non-union shops make pricey goods. Guess where they don't have unions... China.

2. The American business owner...
I work in Engineering for a manufacturer in Texas that sources parts from Chinese companies. I go to China to negotiate and inspect. Currently, there is no cheaper labor source that can crank out the amount of "sold in USA" products, anywhere in the world. Even with the tariffs on Chinese parts and over seas shipping costs, US companies cannot build their products for less, using USA materials & labor. That means a company can use the extra profit to hire more people, pay them a little better, and keep dollars flowing into their local economy (where ever their employees live, and buy groceries, and eat out, and buy beer, etc). And, yeah, the CEO makes more too.

3. The Chinese factory worker...
We've all heard arguments about illegal immigrants in the USA, and how they will do the jobs that Americans won't. Let me tell you, in China there are people doing jobs that illegal immigrants here would never do. If they are lucky enough to get a factory job, their schedule is 6:00am-8:00pm, Mon-Sat. At around $15 USD/day. No joke. Do they care that some Yankee gets a part for his car from 1970, that doesn't quite fit right? Nope. He just wants to send some money back to the little rural village that he left his wife and kid in, 5 years ago. Honestly, the guy on the factory floor isn't trying to make us a sub-par quality part. He's working with the tooling that he has, because the company isn't going to spend $50,000 to tweak the die so the part is an exact replica of what came out of Detroit 50 years ago.

4. The Chinese factory owner...
These guys oversee, and perpetuate, a system of neglect that most Americans can't imagine. In a Chinese factory (at least none that I have been to) there is no Safety Compliance Officer, there is no Quality Control Department, there are no OSHA standards, there is barely a lunch break, and if you gotta take a piss... boss don't care, hold it. And, when you do get to go, here's where you do it...

Actually, this is one of the nicer ones. It even has a door!
And, when it's time to clean the floor....

5. Legal Recourse...
There are no intellectual property laws in China. So, a factory makes a product for a US company for a year or so. Then, they take that design and either A- sell it to another factory that has inferior tooling and they start making it too, or B- sell direct to the US market, if it's a profitable item. But they will under cut the original US company, hoping to draw in American consumers with a lower price.

So, all I'm saying is that there are many contributing pieces to this problem. Both America and China have their share of the blame. When that new part arrives, and it's not quite what you expected, just remember that there is some dude in China that doesn't even know what a Dart, Duster, or Barracuda is. Let alone what the part he's making is supposed to actually look like.
And, yeah, it sucks.

Parts for cars are one thing, what about all the invasive species (feces) of plants and animals and contaminated food along with a new virus every few years. Thanks to our politicians greedy Mother F business and Americans with their heads up there asses.

Don’t forget these big companies have huge investors Wall-street that control these companies and its all about making money and not about the product being a quality product. Throw away garbage.
I disagree we can make it in the United States we have the technology to do it nowadays. Unfortunately the unions of today protect non-productive workers and I feel sorry for the hard workers that deserve the union. It’s a lot different from back in the day when the worker was abused.
Support your home town business is my best advice.

Apple Mac Pros are made in USA. Motorola Droid phones used to be made in USA. Don't assume everything electronic is Chinese, but most is. Do you want cast or forged parts? Try doing that in USA with EPA and waste treatment and all that rot. Edelbrock still does it but there stuff is niche market. Its labor laws here that bind us. Thats just the way it is. GM and Greece is a lesson on what labor can do to crush a company/country. Retire at 50 with full corp/gub'ment backed pension....yeah right.

You hit the nail on the head, there are no simple solutions
Here's a few YouTube videos to illustrate this

Who remembers this jingle? Try finding clothes made in the USA, maybe a hat or t shirt, but a $500coat from Bannana Republic? Made in Bangladesh

My OSHA rep showed us that during our last training session, would anyone in their right mind do that? But like he said, if someone gets killed, maimed or injured there's 10 people standing outside ready to take their job

For me the saddest part of this whole COVID mess has been John Prine, I've been listening to his music everyday since his passing, in ways he has helped me keep my sanity through all this
Yes, we should start making things in the USA, but there is a downside

What to do, what to do, as I said in the beginning, there are no simple solutions

that's easy to say, how do you propose we do that?
Where do you shop that doesn't have Chinese goods?
One of the saddest days was when I walked into Sears and craftsman tools were made in China, and even that couldn't keep them afloat
Lets start with a problem a little closer to home, immigration
I know"send them back" or "build the wall"
Ok, fine, so i guess that means you're willing to go out in the field, with no bathroom, and pick strawberries on a 90 degree day for 10 hours straight for minimum wage or less?
Or you can pay$12 a qt at the grocery for strawberries picked by the united fruit pickers union
Until Americans can learn to live a little more modestly, and live with one less bathroom or gable on their house, and willing to take a modest pay cut for the greater good we're all F'd
And good luck with that

Never said it was going to be easy or happen over night.
I survived for several decades before the Chinese got entrenched in the USA I will do my best to do it again. Spend your energy on how to make it happen rather than the negative, or move to CA. LOL
Gott'a start some time

Dave, you are right. Most publicly traded companies are beholden to their share holders and Board of Directors. Most CEO contracts stipulate a requirement of 8-15% growth, year over year, and they don't care how they get it. Banks and insurance companies are the worst offenders. Instead of putting resources into generating 8-15% more revenue, they just raise rates on current customers. But, that's fair, right? I mean, we're all just lucky to have the privelege of doing business with these companies, so we shouldn't have any issues with paying them more money every year.
For a long time, I have been of the opinion that the single worst thing to ever happen in America was the creation of the publicly traded stock exchange. It has created many of the problems we face. But that's for another post.

.......................................

I bought a fan shroud from Classic.
MOPAR AUTHENTIC........made in china
My Mopar Authentic fan rubbed it. Had to get a small flex fan.
Did your fan rub the bottom half of the shroud?

This is not a political statement, just a true statement. Our country was sold out!

I much rather save my pennies for a reputable part made in the USA I can count on, that buy cheap China crap that will no doubt leave me walking! It is a no brainer.
