The issue I'm having is when the vehicle is moving forward the driver's side wheel toes out and tilts inward (negative camber), but if I put the vehicle in reverse the wheel straightens back out. The passenger front acts roughly the same way, but much less dramatically.

I'm assuming it has something to do with the strut rod bushings. I checked for play in the tie rod ends and control arm bushings (there's a bit), but I don't think it's enough play to cause the alignment to change so drastically.

I'm willing to just go ahead and replace all the rod ends and bushings (was considering some QA1 stuff like upper control arms and strut rods) but some advice or opinions would be very much appreciated.

I have a similar issue in that one wheel turns in randomly and makes the tyre howl...Im replacing the suspicious looking control arm bushes top and bottom

i'd say its your UCA bushings. time for a front end rebuild. PST is actually the best deal parts/price wise, may as well do the entire front in at the same time if you can.

I figured a full rebuild is what I was in for. Thanks everyone. I'll take a look at PST stuff.

There is only one fix and that involved bit tools, heavy work, and lots of "swearing."

i would suggest not driving it until you find the problem and fix it.

side story: backing the 74' i just sold, out of the driveway a few years ago, and barely heard a new little noise in the front end. pulled it back in and got it in the air. found the idler arm stud almost completely pulled out of the joint.

Before buying a thing, diagnose it. You don't know what it is until you actually find it.

As RRR said, before throwing money at it get it diagnosed. If nothing else, trailer it to the alignment shop & have it put on the alignment rack to see what the problem is. You really don't want something in the steering gear to turn loose at speed, the end result could be a disaster.

Definitely lower control arm bushings and possible idler arm.
My car did the same thing when I first got it.
Replaced the bushings and idler, problem solved.

Sorry guys, I had some stuff come up and I haven't had the time to take it all apart yet. I have followed your advice and have not driven it since.

IOU all an update when I get it taken apart, though.
