I have been looking for another project with the Barracuda being "finished" and all. My only criteria was that it be a manual transmission car. I found this one.

It is a 1965 Mercury Comet Cyclone factory 4 speed, small block with 2 4V Edelbrock carburetors and headers. All year/model specific bits & pieces are there, it is a complete car.

It is also a running driving project car that "needs everything". I have build one 65 Comet already so I know the platform and it will give me something to do in my newly arrived retirement.
Cheers to all!

Cool car if always had a soft spot for comets galaxy's and fairlanes! I had a 67 galaxy back when I was a youngin! It was alot of car to drive lol it had a 460 out of a Lincoln. Originally a 289 car it was clean the interior looked new. I wish I would have kept it. Knowing what I know now that would've been a cool car to tinker on.

Very cool car. What’s going on it, 302?

I’m usually 100% in the Mopar family but, am currently restoring a ‘66 Fairlane GT 500; which looks remarkably a lot like your Mercury. Best of luck with this fun new venture!

It is currently a small block of some type, could be 289 A-code per the VIN or may be a 302. I have never seen 2 4V carbs on a small block ford of this vintage before so that may be something to check out.

The 65 Comets were the last of the "changed every year" ford body cars. In 66 they started sharing way more components and styling ques. The thing about this car is the fact that they do not re-pop any of the body trim bits. The last 65 Comet I build was a base unit 2D post 2V auto so I am excited about this one. To find a complete one is a huge win!

Another thing I should mention is the seller is building a 68 Notch Rotisserie complete car. It started life as a 340/727/8 3/4 formula S numbers matching car and it will be built as such. The engine is built and dynode and the car is painted and ready to assemble. The seller is a former bodyshop owner and his shop and collection rival anything I have seen in Washington State. I feel like I got really lucky!

If I member right '65 and previous SBFs had 5 bolts at the bell housing mounting. '66 and later were 6 bolts. 302s started in '68. 260s ended in '64. '67 was the last year for the 289. If it has a top loader T&C 4spd, you can put a Hemi in front of it and not hurt it.

Nice find! Especially with the 4 speed, likely pretty rare in a Comet, I didn't think the Cyclone package was available until 67, but I could be wrong. I have seen a dual quad sbf before, but it's not common. 289's were available into 1968, I had a 68 Fairlane 500 with a 289 2V, and know of several 68 Mustangs that were born with 289s. Easy to make 400+ HP with a well built sbf, good luck and keep us posted.

This is mine. Had it for 15 years. These are great cars. Finding a Cyclone,is awesome. Especially a 4 speed.

Nice I see your car has the cyclone trim correct. The wheels on my car have the cyclone specific covers. I'm guessing they are unobtanium along with most of the rest of the trim.
Mine is a Caliente. Has more trim than the Cyclone. I was saying you are the lucky one to find your car. Mine was painted back in the late 70s,or early 80s. That's why I have this crazy paint job.

What are the seats in your car? I will be needing seats for mine.

Mine are68 Mustang seats my son gave me. The tracks don't sit flat on the floor. I had to make a spacer. Only Falcon, or Comet buckets fit without modification. 65-66 Mustang seats don't fit either. Too low. I have built a couple of these cars, so if you need any help, just ask.

you get that in Yakima?

No, I was searching CL Seattle and at the bottom of the first page I found the car 35 miles from me. I was the first one of a crowd to show up with money:)
More pitchers please. Looks great.
Later today I am getting into it, I'm doing some online research this morning about the car. It may be full of surprises like maybe a K code 289 which Mercury did not identify in the VIN. I will get more photos posted since you asked for them. I am in the infancy of developing a build plan.
