Meet the World's First Hellcat-powered Buick Grand National | Torque News

fine, so it wasnt an LS, it was a hello kitty engine
still, the point remains, that was actually an iconic car before the swap, now, im not sure what it is

A bunch of LS LC2 cars out there but what's the point? It's the same as taking the Hemi out of the SS cars and putting something else in it's place. The beat the underside of that car up to get that Tranny in there lol... Can't say I have ever seen a Mohead powered Buick.

If you have ever owned one or been around the V6 Buick stuff it makes sense leaving it a V6..... Otherwise it's like talking to a brick wall...

Were those turboed? On a side note I always thought that body platform through "those years" was ugly as sin

Yes. The 86/87's were intercooled. The body style is like any other. You like it or you don't. Get in the right one and after a hot lap you may change your opinion about the body style. They basically rewrote Pro-stock and how things were going to be and were basically the inception of Turbochargers being used at a different level for the average person type cars.

Like I said, you have to own one or know someone that's knows what to do with one before you make an opinion. But with that being said in the right hands you can never so much as unbolt a Valvecover and get thrown out of a track for no Rollbar....

They might have been ugly :steering: but the end variety in '87 would run 12.70s @ 110+. :steering:

Last one I had ran 12.00 at 114. I did pop a few headgaskets figuring out the tune lol. Stock turbo, intercooler, injectors.

The one before that was 11.40's at 120. I didn't have the heart to put a bar in it and sold it. Still stock longblock with some extra air but X-wife drove it to work during the week like a granny car lol...

They was freaking quick for a v6 factory car. A guy I went to school with dad had one and at the time I was too little to understand but he absolutely babied that car I mean wash and wax every weekend he wouldnt drive it in the rain covered it up everyday even tho it was garage kept. To me it was just a nice black car i had no clue what it truly was till many years later. I remember he took us home from football practice one time and he made us take off our cleats to get in lol. Years later when I was an adult and knew what a grand national was I ended up working with him. This was in 2005 probably and he still had that car and still drove it. He retired a couple years later but as far as I know he still has it.

Iconic. lol. Those cars were pieces of junk aside from their engines....poorly built cars from head to toe.

I raced every weekend in 1990/91. The Buick Grand National guys were all over, and they were the biggest liars of all time. I wish I had a nickel for every time one of them would tell you "it's stock except for the wastegate..." then he'd run 2 seconds faster than stock and after he'd blow it up his friends would all confide that it was a big inch, super-duper engine.

THink so?
I really like the GM G body cars, especially the Monte Carlo SS. I'd own one if one fell into my lap.

I couldn`t disagree more, what does a factory tubo v 6 have to do w/ prostock ??

MUCH LIKE TH CAMAROS AND USED MUSTANGS , RATTLEING PIECE OF S--- TO ME . Disregard caps as usuall---

Stone stock from the factory off the show room floor they ran 14.95. I remember them plain as day in the car lot, and I remember factory stock GN's running at the strip. I liked the looks, an still do.

In the 80s, Ma Mopar was cranking out ugly FRONT wheel drive cars while GM and Ford still was building REAR wheel drive cars.
The Diplomat, GRan Fury and Fifth Avenues were good brake donors but aside from that, their performance potential was sorely lacking.

Don't care still ugly 80s car.

I had a buddy that had one of those things. it ran so well it sat on the side of his house in pieces for years before it was finally drug on to a flatbed headed for the yard. he thought it was automotive art but it was a pile of ****.

1989 Turbo T/A Pace car...same GNX spec motor, >200 lbs lighter and in a better looking car! Probably cheaper to buy too.
