Yawn, another iconic car ruined by an LS swap

-
looks like it was a pretty clapped out GN to start out with. cool and different swap..

have a mopar friend that was into the GN and t-type buicks back in the day... his GN was running in the 11's back then which was fast for a street car at that time not to mention a fully loaded street car.. all you used to see at the track back then on street night were turbo buicks and 5.0 mustangs.. those G-body GM cars are so damn nice driving. far better then anything chrysler was making at the time.

Iconic. lol. Those cars were pieces of junk aside from their engines....poorly built cars from head to toe.

I raced every weekend in 1990/91. The Buick Grand National guys were all over, and they were the biggest liars of all time. I wish I had a nickel for every time one of them would tell you "it's stock except for the wastegate..." then he'd run 2 seconds faster than stock and after he'd blow it up his friends would all confide that it was a big inch, super-duper engine.

Since you have all this knowledge Off center or On center? This I gotta hear....

That car was a pile of rotted crap sitting in a field. Who cares what he put in it. At least it’s back on the track and he’s having fun with his car. And he saved a bitchin car. The Buick GNs are about the only good cars to come out of the 80s.

MUCH LIKE TH CAMAROS AND USED MUSTANGS , RATTLEING PIECE OF S--- TO ME . Disregard caps as usuall---

Everyone is entitled to an opinion..... But let me ask you.... Without what's next being done to your car how fast is your fire breathing, big block currently? And you are getting mid 20's mpg on the highway with Cruise and AC, correct?

I am definitely not a GN fan per se (don't hate them, but don't really care for them either), that said IMO this is a complete waste of a Hell Cat engine, should have gone LS or gotten a Mopar to put the HC drive train in. I do believe that the GN is a unique car in a sea of truly bad cars of the era, but to that end it should remain a GM car entirely.

Crossing over from brand to brand for motors is not something I delve into. I am good with others doing it just not me. I enjoy anyone doing their thing. However this is an interesting swap. I went far enough with my last GN that the stock 109 block was going to need help. I am curious if this is a stock Hellcat motor and if it's been put on the track. A truly stock V6 intercooled car was low 14's at best and the Hellcat setup should put it somewhere in the 11's I would think. Interesting build.....

Yeah I would agree that it is interesting and I applaud the ingenuity of the build, just not my "cup of tea" for power plant selections, perhaps goes to prove that Mopar is a better choice

No mullet here, Lipshitz. I have far better style than that.
Guys in your town may still be sporting the Wisconsin Waterfall but it ain't my style... never was.

not at all ---------------and so far it hasnt performed like I`m used to ----------

For yrs. I would watch hoards of cameros take off from the starting line and dump gas all over the dragstrip , from the behind the tag filler neck . The management did nothing about it , they always want gm to win . MUST BE ONE OF THE REASONS I`LL ALWAYS HATE CAMAROS , AFTER A FEW YRS OF NORMAL DRIVING, they are a piece of junk too!

Had 87 GN. Fast V6 streetcar.
If you don't mind replacing turbo bearing often...….
Terrible oiling design from the start

Always liked the GN’s, always made me think it was the modern version of the Buick GS Stage 2.

Back in the 90’s I was stationed in Hawaii and had a beater 85 Capri 5.0 that I used to mess with. Was always reading Muscle Mustangs & Fast Fords and use to cringe every year when they would take on the GN guys. Basically every year the GN guys would hand them their ***, by a lot. Never understood why they kept doing it, but they did with the same results.

Somewhere around here I have the DVD Black Rain, documentary about them.

Personally I would have kept the V6, but it’s their car and they can do what they want with it.

Fair enough.... Tell ya what Bob, since they are such junk find me a few to buy at a firesale price.

Sadly you are uneducated about the Buicks and that's OK too. Friend of mine is 6.0's

For many years they had an event at Englishtown Raceway that pitted the Fox against the Buicks. I call it like I see it and the Fords typically handled their business. It was undoubtedly something you were either into or not. Good times and would love to go back in time...
