I have my car in the repair shop for a rear-end vibration issue. The owner of the shop has informed me that the vibration is due to the pinion angle being incorrect. The pinion is pointing up 4* which only gets worse under acceleration (as the axle rotates up). The shop owner also informed me my car has 2800 lb super stock springs in it from Mancini Racing (1 of the the previous owners added them). So apparently, when the ss springs were installed the pinion angle was not set or adjusted correctly.

So my inquiring mind went to Mancini Racing's website to look up 2800 lb ss springs. Mancini lists multiple springs, by vehicle weight. My question is do all Mopar vehicles use the same spring dimensions (front eyelet to perch to rear eyelet)? For example will the 2800 lb ss springs in my a-body car also fit other car bodies (b-body, e-body, or c-body)?

SS spring have a 20" front segment, same as A-bodys, b & e stock springs have a 22" front segment so to use the SS springs on b & e's they make a 2" longer front hanger. rear segment is 35" on most, some b-bodys use a 36" rear segment

SS springs all use the A-Body shorter front segment. Consequently, on B & E Bodies a longer front spring hanger must be used. They also come in staggered left and right spring rates, as the passenger side rear is pushed downward harder than the driver;s side during launch. Many cars sit a bit higher on the passenger side as a result. I believe there are also two different overall lengths, but I am not sure about that.

I run a pair of the 3200 lbs passenger side springs in both my 3700 lbs Mopars to get a softer more compliant ride on the open road. I also fitted both cars with properly adjusted slapper bars to control the wrap of the front spring segment of these lighter springs.

My automatic car has Koni's, and my higher powered stick car other has AFCO custom-valved double adjustable shocks. This set-up rides and hooks better than any other rear set-up I have tried over the last 4 decades.

No. A body springs are dimensionally different, especially on the front segment. At one time Direct connection offered extended front spring hangers to enable you to run S/S springs on B/E bodies, but they are not directly interchangeable.

Thanks for the info guys! It makes sense the length of the leaf springs would be different between body styles.

I was just reading a Hot Rod magazine article that said pinion angle should be 2° negative (down at the front) angle. Yes if you are 4° positive you have some issues.

Something is wrong, the springs won’t change the pinion angle much. The perches may be welded to the tubes wrong or the front spring hangers are upside down. Spring eye bushing should be on the bottom. That’s an old trick to lower the car and will mess up the pinion angle.

you can buy purch "degree shim" to fix the problem...........or you can cut the Leaf Spring perches off, buy new ones, and have them welded back on with the pinion nose down 5 to 7 degrees.

I can see how this could cause a vibration. A U-Joint killing Vibration for sure.

no------

I posted this up from my thread on the SS Springs and the blue lines and writing is for may E-body.

Every one like 02/03 SS Spring on there A Body..........Many have used them on there OTHER bodys mopars as well:D .
If you want the highest *** end lift and the stiffest ride........us the 02/03 ss spring.
If you have a manual transmission, US This Spring!(if your going to do any kind of racing) If you want a ss spring for mostly the street and a little bit of drag time(and you don't' mind the gangster lean:wtf::D........ consider one of the "Auto Trans springs.

Forget about how much your car's weight for a minute and look at the Spring rates......... An auto 3000 pound car has a spring rate of 125 lb/in where as the manual 3000 pound spring is 160 lb/in (02/03)

This means that it will take a 125 pound on that spring to lower it 1 inch. the same for the 02/03 spring as well as all the maual springs that will require 160 pound on the spring to lower it on inch.

If your just wanting the *** end up in the air for tire clearance then just us two Left spring or 2 Right SS Spring of your choise.
Personally.........if you just need tire clearance i would go to a spring manufacturer and tell them what you want. You will get the height and a much better ride.
