Let's see your rolls of dimes and your gorgeous welding.

I must be sick in the head to go around looking at welds wherever I go. Whether it's an office chair, steel door, handrails, anything that was welded at one time, I'm always paying attention to the welds and thinking about how it was probably done.

I was welding a perch on a rear end and this is what I came up with.

Let's see yours, I'm sure you guys have some good looking welds out there.

Hell no. I'm not that proud of mine!
Since when are you shy .....I showed you mine now show me yours.

I know mine are not perfect but that's what I got. I'm sure the real Welders will chime in later with the goods. I look at welds everywhere I go in everyday life so I pay attention to all welds, no matter how gorilla they are LOL......(then I wonder why I don't have a healthy social life :) )

Your welds look pretty good to me.

That is the point. Almost every weld that I do has to be tuned up with a grinder.
MY welds on thick metal are on par with the OP. It is the thinner stuff like sheet metal where I am still trying to improve.

Good looking undercarriage.

What gauge did you use to make your torque boxes?? That's something I need to do on a few cars

That's really good considering welding upside down is really tough. I have some scars that prove that.

The torque boxes were made thinner with this car compared to what I used for the red Charger.
16 gauge for Jigsaw, 14 for the red car.
These were made in 2012.

I just bought a sheet of 18 gauge to do body repairs. I know what you mean about the thinner stuff being harder to weld on than the thicker stuff

Thin stuff requires patience and finesse. Short and quick zap welds rather than the steady stream of bead that sounds like bacon sizzling.

knowing the Kernell, he probably just rolled the car to get at it :poke:

Ok, this is the welding I’m most proud of on my ‘65 Dart Go-Go, aka “The Ferrous Oxide Express.” It’s a section of the rear subframe I replaced. Had I known it was this bad before I replaced the floor pans I would have replaced the whole thing. I’m still learning on sheet metal. The finished product looks the same on both sides and is square to everything because I made jig pieces to hold everything in alignment before cutting it apart and used a factory dimension chart to make sure all was correct. Afterwards I discovered that the distance between the passenger side spring perches was 3/16” short from the factory.

I haven't drug my welder out in quite a while. My welds will probably look like they were welded by Ray Charles & QC'd by Stevie Wonder. I really need to stay up on my welding skills but I try to get all of it done at one time & then put the welder away until it's needed again. Welding is a skill that if you don't use it, you lose it. LOL

I used to inspect welds when I started working. Some of those guys were amazing with a Tig welder. One of them could weld an aluminum coke can. They were military certified. Truly amazing! I get your fascination, I do the same. Me, not so much, but I do have a mig welder. Maybe one day I'll take a class or two at our technical college.

Ha, I remember telling you about that "roll of dimes" years ago in the FABO Chat. You've come a long way since then Rainy.

A young gun brought in a pair of sway bars for coating that were fabbed up by a place called Kaotic Concepts. I wish I had my camera downloaded to share a pic right now ... the welds were so beautiful and almost robotic looking that I couldn't stop admiring them. I'll try to remember to edit this post with a Before Pic since they're mostly covered now.

Here's one from a while ago.

The weld is about 10 inches from the far end.

Always trying to improve. My most recent work on my inboard spring kit with MIG and my rear end back brace, fill plug, and spring perches with TIG

Iv scrolled all thru my pictures not a pretty weld anywhere :(
Post what you have and get pointers here. The idea isn't to have a contest but rather to see some welds and share ideas.

The only reason I weld the way I do (which isn't perfect) is because I listened to pointers from members here.
