I'm using a Comp roller cam and usually match lifters with the cam, as far as the brand goes. Has anyone used any other brand of lifter with a comp roller. If so what was your combo and how did it work for you. And if anyone had a bad experience with roller lifters, what were they. Thank you for your help and experience.

Google search:
“Hydraulic roller lifter noise”

What you’ll find is...... there are people who have had poor results with pretty much every brand of lifters out there.

Basically...... they all “can” be noisy. Seems like some of it is luck of the draw for the particular set you end up with.

They are both solid, cam and lifters

That's true, I guess I'm trying to find a more cost effective brand that would work with the comp cam so I can save about a 100.00 or so.

"cost effective brand that would work"
That Unicorn does not exist.
Your best bet is to buy an American made product from a reputable manufacture follow their installation procedures and pray alot.
Good luck

Can’t be said in plain English any better than that.

Hmm. I was wondering the same thing on the new roller lifters. Was planning on something like the comp cams XR 280 R. Are the issues less with milder cam profiles. Are the mechanical rollers less problematic? Thanks

The “issues” I’m referring to are strictly about the possibility of noisy operation with retrofit hyd roller lifters.

With solids...... there’s always going to be some noise.

With hyd rollers, since it’s still “hydraulic”, there is often an expectancy of quiet operation...... which is not how it always works out....... and some combos are really quite noisy.
Noisier than if it were a solid.

However, the same basic advice should be employed with solids.
Buy American made from a reputable supplier, and follow the instructions.
I’ll also add that you should buy lifters that are suitable for the overall build...... or ones that are slightly better.
Not a good place to scrimp.

In a street performance engine I would not run a roller tappet, mechanical or hydraulic.
They are not worth the extra money.
You can have a custom grind flat tappet cam that will offer up excellent performance for a lot less $money.
