Weld ****

-
I have learned not to care so much what the weld looks like, but to judge by how much warpage the welder introduced when he did the work.

Process matters too. Spray welding with spatter spray makes awesome looking welds.

Here goes nothing let the bashing begin haha

Few more bad ones
In my own defense tho even tho they arent pretty they are all effective. Everything iv welded has done its intended purpose. The one below with the nut I snapped a bolt off in my 4wd housing and I threaded a nut on it welded the nut to the broken bolt and it backed right out. It may not be pretty but its affective. Much like me! Haha that's my new pick up line! Haha

My excuses include: I need a "good" Mig welder, I need good wire, I need gas, I need clean non rusty metal, I need .023 wire and not .303 flux wire, I need a decent helmet, I need welding gloves, I need to weld NOT wearing sneakers!??????????????/ And oh yea I need new glasses!???

Yeah, that pretty much covers it.

I'm decent with MIG but really enjoy TIG welding. BUT, unless I'm very well supported, I can't seem to keep from dipping the tungsten in the puddle. I spend more time grinding the tips than welding on some days. :BangHead:

I have to learn to weld some exhaust I gotta connect the old x pipe to a new pipes to run to the headers. Not sure how I'm gonna bend it yet

Yeah I'm there with you building exhaust, just ordered the last pieces to fab mine up.

No doubt welding is a art one that I have never had time to perfect. But my grandfather was one of the very best at his time people would bring projects from all around the state for him to weld he would cast his own aluminum rod and weld cast aluminum. and just about any other metal that could be welded. Your welds look good rainy maybe a little light on the bead, but much better than I could do!

Here's the way I do it. Buy a few pre bent pipe, cut em apart (I used a saw all) and put them back together again the way you want them. If doesn't work the first time try it again. It's just metal. My header came real close to the crossmember so I had to make a couple of sharp bends to make it work. I think it came out pretty good and it was kinda fun too! Sorry, no welded pics but I used flux core and it didn't come out too bad IMHO.

This is how I'm doing mine as well.

Ya know any electricians that do commercial sized projects? Them electricians have some neat portable tubing benders:thumbsup:
We have a pipe bender here at work I just dont know how i would slip that much pipe in without some one noticing. Maybe like Johnny cash.... one piece at a time haha

I’ll be doing this soon as well. Gonna be running exhaust out THROUGH the lower quarter right in front of the rear wheels. Gonna be fun to try and figure out!

Try welding with a mirror, top of exhaust pipe while still in car. The absolute worst thing to weld in my experience. I have destroyed many inspection mirrors.

Back when I built my 3 1/2'' dual exhaust , I tacked them after pie cutting and fitting , then pulled them down /off to weld up, been on the car for about 9 yrs------now way would I
try to weld in a mirror upside down !!
