Headliner help

out headliner came with the vinyl already installed..kind of worried that if i trim it. it will cause the headliner to start failing and.plus th vinyl is rapped over the edge if the plastic

When I fit the headliner originally, I marked it where it needed trimming. I also used some duct tape to hold the cuts in each corner where I wanted them. After removing it, I taped those corners on the back side and removed the tape on the front so it would hold it's shape. When gluing the headliner material to the plastic, I wrapped the material about 1 inch over the edge all the way around. When reinstalling it in the car, I found I had to trim about 1/4" at each corner in front, for a length of about 4 inches from each end, to get the weather strip to lay flat after tucking the headliner under it. Also had to cut one corner in the rear for the same reason. There was no issue with the material pulling away from the plastic after cutting it. I used the 3M headliner glue for mine. One tip - I wasn't sure what to use to cut the material / plastic when I needed to trim it without making a mess. The wife suggested her meat cutting shears, like heavy duty scissors. Worked like a charm.
