Curious as to if anybody makes a conversion kit for a 1972 Demon that doesn't require an upper control arm change or a kit that includes them in it at least.

I did a Wilwood conversion on my 72 Duster from10" drums. Super easy, direct bolt on. Didn't have to change a thing. Kept stock spindles and everything else. Really easy, straight forward conversion. And she stops great now! Don't recall the kit # but can find it if you're interested.

Be well,
Pat

Yes, I'd be interested. Did it include the tapered adapter as mentioned above or did you need to change the control arms? Also, did you have power brakes? Mine doesn't and I don't know how big of a pain it will be to add that into the mix if necessary.

Good morning,

Kit =Wilwood 11023

Didn't have to replace the control arms, any front end components. Just remove the drum brake assemblies down to the spindles and bolted the kit on. Was really impressed with the ease of the conversion. I did need to pick up a new disc/drum master cylinder. And replaced the brake lines front to back. Opted to use a Wilwood adjustable proportioning valve which really help me dial in the front:rear bias.

I run manual brakes. Not sure what if any problem it would be to add power brakes to this set up.

Be well,
Pat

Finally pulled trigger on a front disc conversion

Thank you sir, You've been quite helpful. I just realized you're local. Let me know if and when you take your ride out to any shows/cruises. I'd be interested in seeing it. Blessings, Don

Hey Don,

My pleasure. I didn't realize you were local either LOL! Will definitely try to meet up at one of the area cruise nights this season. Always look forward to meeting fellow FABO members. Disclaimer - my Hooptie looks OK from about 50 feet...but she's my Hooptie!

Be well,
Pat

You 72 and earlier guys are lucky. On my 74, I have to switch spindles to either a rare-as-hens-teeth 73-76 A body disc spindle, or a disc spindle from one of various 80's bodies that are equally as hard to find around my way. My car has 10" drums. I just emailed Willwood to see if they might be offering a kit like your 110223. The one I'm looking at is:Wilwood Disc Brakes - 1974 Plymouth Duster All - Front Brake Kit No.: 140-15465-DR -Requires disc spindle. Also, I like the Wilwood for the weight reduction over the stock-type kits.

Don have you looked at the Scarebird stuff?

I make a 11.75" Viper brake kit that fits '73-'76 A-body DRUM knuckles. See below:

Viper Caliper Mounting Brackets for Mopar DRUM Knuckles

Unfortunately, I do not.

I sell Strange Engineering race brakes which fit 9" knuckles. These are only available in 5 x 4.5" bolt pattern, however.

Thanks for the quick response!

No sir, I have not. Just glanced at it through a link. I'm seeing that dr diff makes a kit, also. Have you had experience with Scarebird? Is everything included for a swap without changing control arms? Thanks for the suggestion.

I'm a little hesitant about the scarebird kit because it doesn't seem to include any dust shields. Not out of the question though, just weighing the differences between them and Dr Diff. Wildwood probably to rich for my blood unless it includes something for the extra price.

No dust shields for scarebird but also no problems in 5 years of driving.

I've bought a number of things from Dr. Diff, you can't go wrong with his stuff. Just my $.02.

I had an 8 3/4 housing cut down and bought axles from Dr Diff. It assembled nicely but it'll be a while before it's up and running to test it. The whole idea of switching to discs is simply to move up to a 5 x 4.5 bolt pattern like the rears.
