Not a mechanic but a mopar enthusiast.
Looking for opinions and experience with small block 340 high volume oil mods. A buddy and mopar guru says its been known to cause issues. The seller says it was done correctly. Im looking at a 10k car and dont want to inherit someone else's issue or be in over my head. Any feedback would be appreciated

Referring to oil bypass by plugging the galley. Im still learning but that's the best I understand it.

You’d have to explain what those mods are. I’ve never heard of a “high volume” oil modification before.

Unless they went full retard with what they did, you can’t do a whole lot to screw up the oiling system on the pressure side of the pump.

Does this thing have solid lifters?

Like I said I'm trying to understand it myself. Here's what seller sent.

Doesn’t do anything but it also didn’t hurt anything. Don’t worry about it if that’s what they did.

Heres what they did in a nut shell. They plugged the oil feed gallery feeding the drivers side lifter bank and then added the cross over to feed the drivers side lifter bank. So essentially they bypassed the OE lifter feed gallery and added a new one, because they think either the oil speed is “too fast” down the passenger side lifter passage and/or they think that pulling the oil off the passenger side gallery reduces oil losses.

If you study it out you’ll see it doesn’t fix anything, but the good news is it didn’t hurt anything either.

Too little info. Don't know why that would be done to a stock engine.

Hi volume mods can be good. Hey Buddy - can cause what issues? a salesman may throw in a hi volume pump and say - ready for race day! maybe pop intake manifold off. any oil pressure gauge numbers? bigger oil pan than stock?

lots of theories on that mod
all have to do with maximising feed to #1 main
oil going past #1 feed hole too fast as stated above
feeding from both sides
did you read the stickey?

the oil travels forward in the main feed gallery on the passenger side, then down to the #1 main bearing, then takes almost a 180* turn to go up to cam and driver side lifter gallery. how does it therefor go past #1 feed hole to fast?

The factory oiling system is pretty dang fine as it is. Really doesn't need anything unless you plan on sustained high RPM.

I think the article the OP is referencing is the early modifications to run a solid roller cam in a SBM. I seem to remember seeing it before the modification came out in the Direct Connection race bulletin for SBMs.

well the seller sent pictures of the crossover modification, is the engine equipped with solid lifters?

The crossover modification was done for hydraulic lifter engines not solid lifter. And it only needs to be done if you're going to be reving the crap out of your motor.

Read this thread it'll explain it to you.

Here's the car in question. Seems he did alot to it. The consensus in getting is the oil mod wasn't necessary but shouldn't be an issue. Worth 10k ?
