I was checking condition of the 7-1/4 rear end that came out of my Dart, and was very much surprised to find it's a sure-grip. I'm pretty sure I've read these are not a common item. What would it be worth? As info the entire rear end and gears look to be in very good condition.

I'm curious about this as well. As I understand it, they are REALLY rare and they go a long way towards helping a 7 1/4" axle live. The tiny spider/bevel gears in the open carrier 7 1/4" axles are a weak link when doing burnouts in one wheel peel.
Just as it is with transmissions, it isn't always the speed of the parts moving that kills them, it is the sudden shock of gaining traction and the built up momentum of the parts slowing down so quickly.....For instance, peeling out in dirt then crossing over to the pavement where the wheelspin sometimes rapidly slows down.
I scoffed at a guy selling a 7 1/4" SG axle a couple of years ago but as is so often the case with me, I later realized that what I thought wasn't always right! These are rare and have value to some people. I could see a person with a small bolt pattern car that didn't need the weight or durability of an 8 3/4 or couldn't afford one...This could be pretty cool for those people.
My guess as to the value of a 7 1/4" Sure Grip differential? $200 if rebuildable, more if it is in good, working condition.

I sold a complete 3.23 sure grip 7 1/4 rear end out of a 66 barracuda for $500 not too long ago.

I used 7 1/4 SG rears in my cars for many years, and they served me well. The problem with them, now, is the parts to repair/service them are almost impossible to find, and if/when you do, are expensive. I haven't seen any clutch kits for sale, for about 5 years, and the last one I saw, sold for $150.

I have a set of used but good condition clutches for the 7.25.
Also have the carrier housing, but the gears are garbage.

The reality is, they aren't worth "much" and here's why. No one, and I mean NO ONE NOWHERE makes rebuild parts. Period. SO, you're pretty much stuck with "what you got". If you think it's rare to even find one (and it IS) just imagine how much rarer it is to find parts. Yes, the "400 and up" would probably be fitting if parts were available. They aren't.

And yes, people will say "you can make this and that work", but the reality is nobody makes parts. I wouldn't spend 400 on something relying on modifying "something else" to work.

That is what they go for. That is the answer to his question. I personally would not pay that either, but I have a lot of options.

The only place i could see anyone wanting one would be a slant corner carver build and even then you need the right driver.

I would have an interest, but I ain't givin a wad for it.......especially since I have a Ford 9" narrowed and almost ready to swap.

I have a 7 1/4 SG big bolt pattern rear, that I am rebuilding. Some parts I had in stock, and some I needed to find. Everything is new except the "castings", axle shafts, and the spider gear shafts (could not find them). SG clutches, spider gears, axle end gears, 3.91 R&P, all bearings and seals. I have somewhere between $400 and $500 in it, and like I said, I had some parts in stock and didn't have to pay current prices. Still need to finish setting it up. Any one willing to pay $600 for it?

I finally sold my 7.25 sure grip SBP from my 66 here a few months ago. Had 45k original miles on it, 2.94s. Let er go for $250. It only took 6 years to find a buyer. I almost couldnt even give the damn thing away.

I sold one on Ebay a few years ago. It was the carrier assembly without gears so it would be easier to ship. It brought 375 so 400 sounds about right.
