Why the Fuch not? Porsche wheel replicas on an A-Body?

I’m a life long VW guy.
I was thinking of doing exactly this.
15x4.5’s in front and deep 6’s in the rear with 145’s up front and 205/60R15’s out back, exactly the combo I’d put on a cal look bug!
I have a 1965 valiant v-200 convertible, completely original, three on the tree, 225. At 55mph it runs so smooth and quiet you’d think you were in an electric car. I’m going lower it 3” Front and 2” in the rear on detailed Fuchs and just cruise the summer with the top down!

I also was contemplating the mooneyes super speed wheel that are made for VW’s.
They make them 17x7” in bus bolt pattern but with the small wheel wells on my 1965 I’d go with the 15x5.5’s.
Dark grey car with a grey stayfast top and all red interior on these wheels would look bad *** in my opinion.

I own a machine/ fabrication shop.
There is a vintage car junkyard near my shop that has a handful of mid 60’s darts, unfortunately they were stacked up on top of each other. Extremely sad to see clean 2 door darts destroyed like this...

The good thing is, used parts are abundant. I can get some Axles , hubs and drums and weld up the holes, machine them flat and drill them whatever lug pattern I need. I can keep all the original parts to put it back to stock should I ever want to.

One of the best looking OEM wheel designs in history (IMO) are the Fuchs wheels that came on old Porsche 911s.
American Eagle wheel used to make the Porsche copy wheels in 5-4.5 bolt pattern many years ago. They didn't come with center caps. Porsche caps would fit right on them.

If I had the time or the skills I’d photoshop up a pic. I’m also distracted by Mitsubishi Starion/Chrysler Conquest wheels which are 5x4.5” (5x114.3) bolt pattern. Hmmm...

I have a set of the conquest wheels that I bored to centers out to fit. Can't use a cap on the front wheels because the center of the A body rotors stick out and a very thin spacer is needed for the front. The conquest uses a front wheel drive style front rotor setup even though it is rear wheel drive. Mine are 16x8 and 16x9. The standard ones were 16x7 and 16x8. The rears barely fit on my dart with the fender lips rolled. No problem with radiused wheel wheels like the barracuda or duster.

Just brainstorming here... wondering if anyone has ever seen anything like this.

I'm a big fan of borrowing cues from classic sports cars and repurposing them. I am running "Wantanabe" style/replica wheels on my Dart Sport and while it's not a look for everyone, I get positive feedback, questions and frankly, more attention than I want about the wheels everywhere I go. Regardless, the aesthetic matches the design of the car well enough to not "clash," they're different from what everyone else runs and they suit my personal preference. I'd call that a success and I suspect that other properly styled, period correct looking, unexpected wheel styles could work great on these cars too.

One of the best looking OEM wheel designs in history (IMO) are the Fuchs wheels that came on old Porsche 911s. They're a clean flat five spoke design that you can recognize from a mile away. I suspect that a lowered Abody that was set up for more "back roads" kind of activities might look damn sharp with a set of these wheels.

Don't get me wrong, I have no particular love for Porsches. I like some things about them but find the cult of owners to be generally insufferable enough to drive me off from ever really wanting to own one. :)

So this style came to mind as there are companies making copies of these wheels in various diameters. IIRC, the OEM Porsche bolt pattern is not 5x4.5" or 5x4” but these are common enough bolt pattern that I believe that some of the replicas may be available in bolt patterns and sizes that could be made to fit. This style MIGHT be one that would look relatively period correct, even in a 17" size...maybe? If so, this could open the door to a selection of modern rubber as a nice side benefit.

Thoughts? What other wheel styles could we steal to go on our Abodies?

Do you have pictures of your car on watanabes?

I need to know what size and back spacing? Does this car have factory wheel wells and springs in stock location?

you’re not going to like the answer.
15x8 +0 for the rear, 15x8 +10 for the front...anyone who has messed around with these cars long enough will see the problem. 15x8 are basically a no-go on front disk abodies. Even with the QA1 tubular control arms. I was dead set on doing something different and I always wanted this wheel style on my Dart so I opened my wallet and had a pair narrowed by 1” which did the trick.

You may be better off contacting Panasport to see what they can do for a custom wheel.
