Hello,

My 73 Valiant has had the fuel sender changed, and behold it has the issue of not reading correct like Ive read on the countless amount of discussions.

I had a 72 Valiant I was going to restore before I got my 73 and is now just a parts car, I dropped the tank in hopes the 72 has a stock sender I can have rebuilt. I have attached a picture of it. Can someone tell me if this a stock unit and if it is who is the best choice to contact in having it rebuilt. Thanks

That looks like a stock unit. Does it work?

Take some photos of the inner workings as best you can any post them.

There is a "how to" on doing a repair

If you decide you don't want to mess with it I'll be happy to take it off your hands:rolleyes:

Here is some more pictures of the sender, It looks like Im getting a signal, these are the Ohms at Full and empty positions. Looks pretty close to me can make a few tweaks

to the tabs. Only thing I need to do is clean it up and find out how to get a new seal and sock filter.

Look at the how to to see if your wipe needs repair. But those resistor values look great

After searching price and shipping for a seal, a strainer, and a float,,, to buy a entire sender assembly is more practical.
Close as you will come to getting an OEM fuel sender..

Strainer and seal Mopar on ebay $20. It has a new sender in it, the problem is it will not read correctly on the gauge. Empty is half for me. Ive read all the conversations on this and this seems to be a problem with new senders. This stock one I found is reading the correct Ohms and I will clean it up and reuse it. The new senders are Junk

OK, My float cracked right where the wire wrap ends. I couldn't find all 3 pieces shipped in one box. Good luck with it.

Most all of the sending units on Ebay, Amazon, & other sellers site will not work correctly. There has been multiple posts & discussions here in the last few days. The sender advertised for a van or truck is said to be very close. The basic opinion was to send your original sender out to be rebuilt or get a machmeter box so it can be calibrated.

Yes this seems to be it, Im glad that the one I was able to get out of the parts valiant is original and still reading the correct measurement, looks like all I have to do is clean it up, put the new strainer and install it.

The problem I saw is you can buy the box to the matche the signal but thats kind of spendy and you still have to calibrate it. In this case an original will work just like it should with factory electronics and is the easier solution.

C2LtP,
I responded to other FABO guys posts after reading that they’re having problems with their OEM sending units. Check out John Wolf and Co. in Willoughsby, OH. He restores/rebuilds vintage gauges/sending units. A number of FABO members have sent their sending units to him and were very happy with the results.Do a search on FABO for posts on him and his services.
Good Luck,

Cleaned it up and put a new strainer seems to be working great 1/4 at 5ish gal. 1/2 @ 8 gal. 3/4 @ 12 gal and past the F at full tank
