The million dollar question lol. Will the right amount of vacuum signal show up on a LD340 intake for using a Sniper (Fitech for that matter or the same type FI?) I am working on a deal with someone and this is the intake on the small block that interest me. Mild street motor.

Thanks in advance...

JW

Intake don't matter, super victor will have same vac. Camshaft does matter.

Just trying to get some clarification on the subject. I have a single plane for a current setup so once I went in that direction it didn't matter to me. Just looking for a real world experience. I do remember Johnny Mac talking about it a while back but couldn't find his content....

Thanks,
JW

I have a Sniper on a LD340 on my 408. The cam is pretty mellow, so tell you the truth, I have never checked how much vacuum my engine pulls. Works well.

Real world info. Thanks..... I am sure this theory has been squashed but it was worth asking. One way I always tried to logically look at this is GM used TB Fuel injection in the masses and didn't have single plane intakes. Of course they had plenty of other problem with them......

A dual plane with a sniper may be better because fuel is above throttle plates, but manifold wise vacuum will be same.

If a dual plane has a center divider full height, it will need to be cut down about 1” for use with a Sniper

That's interesting. The motor deal didn't work out with the LD340 intake but the motor I did end up with has a Weiand Action + on it which is a dual plane. Please explain what you know about this if you can. Thanks.....

Because I'm going to use an Edelbrock Performer RPM, I asked Holley Tech Support this question and this was their reply:

Hey Jim,
you could use a blaster 2 coil 8202, we have plenty of customers using the same coil for the same reason as you. As for the intake you will only need to notch it if it goes all the way to the top and that''s just so the map sensor can get signal from both sides of the engine. If you do need to notch it you only need to take about an inch out.

Your Question Was:

We are considering installing a Sniper and Hyperspark ignition on this 340 Mopar and have 2 questions (at least for now!)
1. We want use a round coil rather than the hyperspark coil for a more stock appearance. Can you advise on a suitable coil part number?
2. We are planning on using an Edelbrock Performer RPM intake manifold p/n 7176 dual plane. Will this be ok? Should we cut down the plenum divider?

Thanks
Jim B.

Holley Tech Support is very responsive to answering question about the Sniper and their Forum is also very helpful.

Great info RealWing. How much did you notch yours? I see the 1" down but was it whole length also?

Thanks,
JW

A friend of mine had a problem with his Fitech running a dual plane. We put a 1 inch spacer on it and it’s a totally different truck. Kim

The spacer will also work - as long as you have the hood clearance!!! I had to use a drop base on the air cleaner to get the Performer RPM and Sniper to fit under my Cuda hood.

I use the sniper with the rpm intake all I did if you have the clearance is to run at least a1/2 inch open spacer or four hole your preference . I use a 3/4 open wood phenolic . With the open spacer I found the idle to clean up a bit better than the 4 hole .Realwing be careful when just running a thin gasket only as there has been cases on the Sniper where the ECU get real hot from engine temps and playing havoc as they live in front of these units . That’s why I went with the wood . Best heat retardant. 16 months now in use coming around to 8000km since installing . Absolute blast to drive . Throttle response is awesome .
